The Role


St Helena School is looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Attendance Officer to be responsible for the operational and administrative support to promote whole school attendance strategies in order to improve attendance levels and reduce persistent absence, in line with academy targets.

Strong IT skills and practical experience of using Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, are essential for this role. Experience within a school attendance role is advantageous.

This post is 37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (term time, plus non-pupil days).

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Relentlessly seek to improve the attendance of students at the academy, in order to meet targets, set by the Trust
  • Work alongside other pastoral colleagues, Senior Leaders and Heads of Year to plan and implement strategies that will improve the behaviour, attendance and attainment of individual and targeted groups of students.
  • Attend meetings with parents/carers and multiagency meetings, when appropriate.
  • Monitor and analyse attendance data daily to identify areas of concern and act accordingly to improve the figures.
  • Produce and send letters regarding lateness and attendance / truancy.
  • Undertake home visits to support parents/carers, encourage students to come into school and discuss the link between absence and attainment.
  • Advise parents/carers about the legal process if their child becomes a persistent absentee.

We're looking for you if you have:

  • A good standard of education (ideally Maths/English GCSE grade A* to C or equivalent);
  • Experience of working in a school environment or in a supervisory role with young people will be an advantage;
  • A commitment to high standards of achievement from students and yourself;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to act on your own initiative;
