Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a fellow with an interest in ventilation and respiratory medicine to work with key investigators in carrying out new research studies.
The post holder will be able to support the design and conduct of the research with the key investigators. They will also be expected to analyse data, take part in research meetings and prepare manuscripts arising from the research.
Main duties of the job
To provide set up and delivery of the two studies to investigate the efficacy of different modes of inhaled therapies in patients requiring tracheostomy ventilation and non-invasive ventilation, under the supervision of the principal investigator o Duties will include, but are not limited to:
Screening and recruitment of potentially eligible patients in critical care Consent and enrolment of participants Support, follow-up and clinical assessment of enrolled study participants according to the study protocol Liaison with R&D and collaborators Collection and quantitative/qualitative analysis of study data and maintenance of database Preparation of study documents, ethics applications, study materials and reports Presentation and dissemination of progress/findings via multiple media including conference abstracts and manuscript publication Clinical trial management and conduct according to GCP principlesAbout us

Lane Fox Respiratory Service is situated in St Thomas' Hospital and is a specialist commissioned respiratory service to support both the acute and long-term management of patients with sleep disordered breathing and chronic respiratory failure. Currently, there are approximately 2500 patients managed in the Lane Fox Respiratory Service. With 34 beds and a purpose-built outpatient facility, Lane Fox is the largest weaning, rehabilitation and home ventilation service in the UK with a South East HMV network being developed to facilitate ease of access for all patients with chronic respiratory failure.
The research service is housed in the Lane Fox Clinical Respiratory Physiology Centre and the translational science programme is focused on three themes of admission prevention in COPD, prevention of skeletal muscle wasting during critical illness and clinical trials to improve long term outcome in patients with sleep disordered breathing and chronic respiratory failure. The Lane Fox Respiratory Service ensures life-long support for patients throughout the cycle of their condition.

Clinical:
The postholder will, together with colleagues, be responsible for the provision of services to the Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust to include:
(a) Diagnosis and treatment of patients of the trust in such hospitals, health centres or clinics or other premises as required.
(b) Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of, your staff.
Training of junior staff:
The postholder will take responsibility for the training and direction of junior staff allocated to him/her under aegis of the training plan that that postholder has agreed with their supervising consultant.
Teaching:
The postholder will be expected to contribute as appropriate in the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Clinical Governance:
All medical and dental staff are expected to take part in clinical governance activity, including clinical audit, clinical guideline and protocol development and clinical risk management. They will be expected to produce evidence of their contribution in these areas and their audit of their own clinical work as part of their appraisal.
Educational Programme:
Neither the London Deanery nor the Royal College accredits this post for postgraduate training. However, the postholder will be expected to attend and contribute to educational activities departmental meetings, x-ray meetings, pathology meetings, multidisciplinary meetings, journal clubs and research meetings etc.
