Job overview

The Senior Educational Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) is part of the education team delivering and recording a range of personal care activities. The Senior Educational HCSW also delivers enhanced fundamental training in the training and clinical environment. Support and supervision is provided by a Practice Development Team. The Senior Educational HCSW has a responsibility to support, supervise and assess new staff. The Senior Educational HCSW assists in ensuring the effective running of the new HCSW's induction programme and care certificate achievement in the classroom and in clinical areas/department.

Main duties of the job

To support new HCSW's and supervise the monitoring of patient's clinical observations including temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, blood glucose, height and weight on instruction from the qualified nurse. Recording the results appropriately and reporting any abnormalities to the Nurse in Charge. To train the HCSW to assist in the collection of specimens and record results within the classroom and clinical setting. Support the HCSW under the supervision of the qualified nurse, support patients undergoing clinical procedures ensuring their comfort and safetyTo teach and assist in the maintenance of up to date, comprehensive and accurate records in accordance with current legal requirements To act as a role model and adviser to less experienced staff demonstrating the Trusts Values and Behaviour's. All elements of the role should be underpinned by Care, Compassion, Competence, Communication, Courage and Commitment.. To assist in setting up and preparing patient areas appropriately within the training room and clinical area Assist the practice development team with collection/delivery of items necessary to ensure effective educational management. Work closely with the practice development team to deliver programmes of training for new HCSW's to support the Care Certificate and Foundation Programme

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To teach and assist in the maintenance of up to date, comprehensive and accurate records in accordance with current legal requirements. To act as a role model and advisor to less experienced staff demonstrating the Trusts Values and Behavior's. All elements of the role should be underpinned by Care, Compassion, Competence, Communication, Courage, and Commitment. To maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and other health service business. To support the new HCSW to escort patients and families to other departments within the hospital as required To participate in maintaining standards of hygiene, cleanliness and infection control, reporting problems as appropriate and adhering to Trust policy To assist in setting up and preparing patient areas appropriately within the training room and clinical area To assist in the maintenance and safekeeping of patients property in line with Trust policy To assist the practice development team with general collection/delivery of items necessary to ensure effective educational management. The ability to communicate effectively with a patient enriches the life of that person and reduces stress during hospitalization. The healthcare support worker provides a great deal of care to our patients, and self-aware HCSW who is educated and supported can hear the voice of the patient, and provide sensitive, compassionate, person-centered care.

Essential criteria

Level 2 apprenticeship standard in Clinical Healthcare Support, Health & Social Care or relevant equivalent qualification Care Certificate At least 1 year of working within a health and social care setting At least 1 year of working within the classroom setting supporting the induction of HCSW's Maths GCSE ( grade C or above or grade 4 to 9) or Maths Level 2 functional skills English GCSE (grade C or above or grade 4 to 9) or English Level 2 Functional skills

Desirable criteria

Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support or Health and Social Care or relevant equivalent
