Specialising in both social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties and autism (ASC), at Fair Ways School, our primary focus is for staff to support students in their transitional period either to full-time education or towards a working career.


Where and when do we need you?
Our Transition centre based in Wallington is looking for a Therapeutic Learning Practitioner. The role will be working in small groups or 1:1 demonstrating and supporting students to experience various elements of DIY/house repairs and construction trades, such as painting and decorating, small brick laying projects, wall papering, tiling and wood working or gardening

As a Workshop Therapeutic Learning Practitioner you will be involved exciting and rewarding things like:

  • Implementation and delivery of each students Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Personal Education Plan (PEP) by providing relevant data to monitor progress, set targets and plan lessons.
  • Positively and effectively contribute to the planning and decision making process during all school meetings.
  • Demonstrating an understanding of, and a willingness to learn, how the young peoples' early life experiences and how such experiences may result in, or contribute to, severe challenging behavior.
  • Recognise and accept the possible need to intervene using positive handling strategies in order to make incidents safe, and to work as part of a consistent team.
  • Maintaining records accurately and methodically as instructed by the Head of School or laid down in the schools policies and procedures.

Desirable. but not Essential

  • Whilst we value the knowledge and understanding that experience and qualifications can bring, we also know that some of our best people have come to us from unrelated backgrounds. These people already held our core values at heart, and with the dedication of our amazing inhouse training and development team, we have supported the rest_
  • Have specialist knowledge of a function ideally in a trade or craft acquired through advanced formal training. BTEC National Certificate / ONC level or A level or Scottish Highers in a jobrelated discipline, or equivalent advanced craft certificate (City & Guilds Level 3/NVQ 3).
  • Previous experience of working with Children and young people with health/social care/educational needs
