The post holder will provide a clear focus for clinical leadership across a team of Cellular Therapy Nurse Specialists and patients undergoing Cellular Therapies within the haematology unit.

They will provide visible leadership and management of the team and be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high quality care. The post holder will ensure that the department and its staff deliver a high quality service that is patient focused, efficient and safe. They will be responsible for co-ordinating care, monitoring expenditure, monitoring the quality of clinical support and managing specialist nursing staff. They will ensure that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery.

They will work very closely with the Haematology General Manager to ensure effective delivery of Cellular Therapy Service at UCLH for both the NHS adult and adolescent services and the private service integral at UCLH.

Main duties of the job Leadership

Implement and support a zero tolerance approach to bullying and harassment in all forms and lead by example in this area.

Provide expert professional leadership to a team of Clinical Nurse Specialists who co-ordinate Cellular Therapies for the NHS adult and adolescent services and Private Services to the team's Data Manager and to other direct care staff to patients and carers within wards and departments and to outside agencies.

Demonstrate effective decision-making skills to address complex facts or situations requiring analysis, interpretation or comparison of a range of options. Use effective change management skills to implement the outcomes of the analysis.

Accountable for delivery of a shared vision of service in collaboration with the MDT, organisation and external agencies, ensuring seamless patient care through the development and implementation of protocols and pathway working.

Plan and organise complex activities required for the Cellular Therapy Service. Negotiate and agree with individuals, groups and other practitioner's outcomes, roles and responsibilities, and action to be taken to develop resources, services and facilities.

Use effective prioritisation, problem solving, and delegation skills to meet the demands for frequent concentration in a work environment that is unpredictable and challenging.

The Cancer Services Division at UCLH delivers world class cancer care to patients from across the country, with a range of specialised services in Oncology and Haematology, delivered by its team of approximately 1300 staff, and an annual income of over 210m. It strives to innovate and improve the care that it offers across all areas.

Services are spread across the UCLH campus with over 140 inpatient beds across the Grafton Way Building and UCH Tower, an ambulatory chemo unit, a radiotherapy facility, an apheresis unit and a large outpatient department. Our radiotherapy service is based in the basement of UCH and one of two national Proton Beam Therapy centres is based below ground in the Grafton Way building.

The Cancer Services Division also has management responsibility for the UCH Macmillan Cancer Centre, a state-of-the-art building designed to deliver ambulatory chemotherapy, diagnostics, outpatient consultations and support and information services for patients and carers. A strategic partnership with Macmillan has underpinned a new way of delivering supportive care to cancer patients in conjunction with their clinical care.
