An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in the pre-assessment service within the endoscopy unit in Swindon. We are a friendly team with good ambition to progress the service further.

We offer full induction to the unit and will support you in your training and to discovering how great Endoscopy is.

The future is bright for the Endoscopy department with a new CDC being constructed in West Swindon. Please contact the unit on if you have any questions.

Working as part of the Endoscopy Team the post holder will provide education to patients and health care personnel on all endoscopy procedures.

They will provide specialist nursing expertise, act as a resource and be expected to exhibit specific knowledge in the management of disorders of the Upper and Lower gastrointestinal tract.


The Endoscopy Pre assessment Nurse will host telephone and face to face pre assessment clinics for patients requiring endoscopic procedures.

You will need to address any issues that may arise prior to the patient attending for their endoscopy procedures such as the management of the patient's medications and assessing any pre-existing medical conditions which could impact their endoscopic procedure.


As a skilled member of the team you will develop and maintain good patient care, organisational skills and assist in the provision of a high level of care.

It is essential that the post holder can work within a diverse, multidisciplinary team providing autonomous decision making and be aware of their limitations in accordance with NMC.

These clinics aim to enhance the patient's endoscopy experience from referral through to discharge, particularly by putting the patients mind at ease by answering any questions and dealing with any concerns.

To support the nurse in charge with the day to day planning, the delivery of a high quality nursing service and the continuous improvement of that service.

To act as a role model, ensuring high quality, professional standards are maintained and delivered at all times.

Provide legible and comprehensive patient records to agreed Trust and NMC standards and guidelines.

Assist in the monitoring and protecting of groups and individuals whose health and well-being may be at risk e.g. vulnerable adults.


To assist in the orientation and support of new staff and students to the unit, working together as a team.

Patient Client Care


The Staff Nurse will assist in the provision of support to patients and staff in the delivery of individual nursing care in accordance with the Trust policies and procedures.

Assist in the implementation and delivery of the Trust Carers strategy.

Participate in the delivery of speciality patient health assessment programme and pre-operative investigations as per agreed protocols.

Participate in effectively managing complaints as per Trust policy.


The Staff Nurse will participate in the efficient and effective use of resources to ensure the quality and cost effectiveness of service provision.

Assist the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in effective budget management.

Responsibilities for People or Training

Ensure own compliance with mandatory training and re-validation requirements.

Maintain active status on NMC Register.

Act in accordance with NMC Code of Conduct and guiding documents.

Current/live registration with the Nursing Midwifery Council
Evidence of continuing professional development

Recent experience nursing patients in an acute setting
Experience within a range of patient/client care groups

Good interpersonal skills and is able to deal with difficult/sensitive situations
