We work closely with our colleague in the emergency department ,NWAS and are community partners.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a leader who is dynamic and strives to lead by example who has experience of working in a busy acute department who can bring their own knowledge and experience to our already existing team and is ready to hit the ground running.

You will be in a position to influence and effect acute emergency care as we continue to develop our innovative ways of working.

About us

We are a forward-thinking department with a real emphasis on staff development and training - we have our own clinical education team based in acute for all your training needs plus our consultants on every shift available to support and educate - the relationship between medical and nursing staff is second to none. The educators are here to support the wider team both with clinical skills in the clinical area and all general training needs to provide up to date skills.

We are very fortunate to work with in a diverse MDT working as one team to give the best care. we take over 80 medical referrals a day through the call taker and pull directly from ED each day. We have patients returning for investigations rather than siting in hospital with the emphasis on admission avoidance. We work within a friendly diverse MDT which includes our fantastic consultants, doctors and ACP.

Job responsibilities

Effectively and efficiently co-ordinate the department Educate and Support staff Cascade train knowledge and skills to staff Liaise with Bed management, Site Management, General Management and all members of medical teams and all other specialties Achieve targets for Triage and Ambulance via KPI Maintain safety at all times through risk assessment Awareness of Governance and Risk Management processes Monitor Staff sickness and attendance Extended roles to support running of the department support The Matron

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Appropriate NMC Registration Mentorship & Assessing qualification or working towards Post Registration Qualifications relevant to the role Diploma or Degree in Nursing Successful completion of/will to work towards a leadership and development programme (equivalent to the Internal Band 6 Leadership and Development programme).

Desirable

Level 4 ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) or equivalent

Experience

Essential

Experience of acute nursing /emergency nursing at senior level

Desirable

5 yrs plus experience at least 2 years at band 6

Knowledge

Essential

Knowledge of Clinical Governance and Safeguarding and the relevance of these to practice Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures Knowledge of ethical issues Evidence of clinical competence in area of speciality eg surgery Experience of mentorship and ability to identify learning and development needs

Desirable

Experience of managing a clinical area Experience of budgetary management
