Safeguarding Officer

Rotherham, Rotherham, United Kingdom Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council Full time
Job description

Learner Engagement and Achievement Partnership Multi-Academy Trust (LEAP MAT)

Dinnington High School
***
Doe Quarry Lane

Dinnington

Sheffield

S25 2NZ

Tel:

Hours: 37 per week, term time only +13 days*
Contract: Permanent, Full Time

Responsible to:
Vice Principal

Start:
As Soon As Possible (ASAP)

We are seeking a special colleague to be the key deputy to the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), the Vice Principal, and play a lead role in maintaining and reviewing the school's implementation plan for the safeguarding and protection of students.

You need to be passionate about students' well-being and safety, insightful into those small red flags that indicate wider issues, and committed to playing your role in caring for our students.

You will be able to offer advice and support to other members of staff on child welfare, safeguarding and child protection matters, and liaise with relevant agencies such as the local authority and police.

We are proud of our school's success and are committed to providing an ambitious and inclusive environment with a strong pastoral care system that values everyone.

We have a strong safeguarding culture.

The postholder will be ambitious and energetic with a strong work ethic.

Dinnington High School is committed to providing, promoting and achieving excellence, where individuals come together and work co-operatively to ensure enjoyment, opportunity, achievement, equality and respect.

We strive to uphold our school values in all our work:

The Dinnington Way:
kindness, respect, excellence.

Dinnington High School is a large school with 1000 students in KS3, KS4 and Sixth Form.

We pride ourselves on knowing our students well, and having strong relationships, built on trust and mutual respect with all members of the community.

We work to ensure that students and staff have the opportunity to learn and be successful, both in and out of the classroom.

We aim to provide students with an inspirational learning experience through which they can develop into confident, resilient young adults, with a drive to do their very best.

We provide excellent pastoral care for all students, across all year groups.

We also take mental good health seriously with a graduated response for students and staff to ensure we promote and support well-being.

Everyone at Dinnington High School is valued. We recognise and celebrate the meeting of expectations and those who go the extra mile.

We challenge people to push themselves, take a lead and have high aspirations, whilst ensuring they receive the right support, care, and guidance to make them feel safe and secure.

The Safeguarding Officer is a pivotal role in our school and works very closely with other dedicated and experienced colleagues in our
Welfare and Inclusion Team (WIT), which covers safeguarding and attendance.

This team includes the Attendance Officer, the Student Support Officer (who shares some of the caseload with the postholder) and the Inclusion Support Co-ordinator.

The postholder line manages our Inclusion Support Co-ordinator, who is an 3 experienced and skillful practitioner who provides outreach to students who struggle to come to school as well as those who attend alternative provisions.

WIT is part of our wider
Achieve Team, which covers all our pastoral care including our Year Leaders with whom the post-holder also has a close working relationship.

Members of the
Engage Team (SEND) also liaise with the Safeguarding Officer as they lead on student mental health and Looked After Children.

The Safeguarding Officer also advises the member of SLT with responsibility for Personal Development to ensure our form time and assembly programme is responsive to emerging concerns in the wider community.

LEAP Multi-Academy Trust also has a Safeguarding Vice Principal one day per week who works with the school Vice Principal and Safeguarding Officer to provide support, including supervision when needed, as well as advice and guidance.

  • The additional 13 days recognise that, sometimes, safeguarding work does not fit neatly into the school day, whether that is due to a student disclosing a serious issue just before they are due to go home on a Friday or if an urgent meeting has to be called with external agencies to secure the safety of a young person. The safeguarding team share these extraneous calls on their time but it does mean there will be times when you need to be flexible.
