Research opportunities will be offered in a wide range of haematology disciplines including haemato-oncology, haemostasis and thrombosis, auto-immune diseases, transfusion medicine, haemoglobinopathies, stem cell transplantation, clinical trial design and conduct, and haematopathology.

Projects may be basic science, translational medicine or clinical haematology. Collaborations across Imperial College and with other institutions will be encouraged.


The applicant will identify a Principal Investigator(s) within the Department of Clinical Haematology (ICHNT) and/or the Centre for Haematology (ICL) with whom they plan to work.

The post allows for appointments of one, two or three years.

Successful applicants working for two or three years will be expected to register for a higher degree (MD, PhD) and those working for one year will be encouraged to register in a Master's program at ICL.

The fellowship will cover salary (up to, but not including NHS consultant level), tuition fees (home rates only) and research consumables.

As part of their research project, and under the supervision of and as directed by the Principal Investigator(s), the post-holder's responsibilities will include;

  • To conduct all aspects (experimental planning, the gaining of ethical approval, laboratory work, data analysis) of the research project;
  • To develop relevant research and clinical skills;
  • To develop aims and objectives for a higher degree, to register and prepare grant submissions;
  • To record, analyse and communicate scientific data together with a clear interpretation of results;
  • To write scientific papers communicating the results of the work, and to present at scientific meetings nationally and internationally;
  • To contribute to teaching in the department;
  • To join multidisciplinary meetings and participate in clinical governance activities and audit;
  • To participate as part of the larger research group as required;
  • To participate in departmental managerial activities as required;
  • To budget and keep records of expenditure on laboratory consumables; and
  • Compliance with intellectual property rights, the Data Protection Act 2000, COSHH Health and Safety Guidelines within the laboratory and all other relevant Imperial College policies, including Financial Regulations, the Equal Opportunities Policy, the Promoting Race Equality Policy, the Health and Safety Policy, the Information Systems Security Policy, and the Intellectual Property rights and Register of Interests Policies.


The post-holder will be responsible for accurate record-keeping and documentation of results, and for preparing research reports and papers arising from their research.
