The Trust is offering an exciting secondment opportunity for the Deputy Head of Mental Health Law. The successful candidate will require an extensive knowledge of the Mental Health Act and the Mental Capacity Act, have experience of team management and of working with senior leaders of an organisation in order to shape and influence practice and policy

Main duties of the job

Working with the Trust and Network Management teams to identify, provide and promote the strategic requirements for the implementation and management of mental health legislation across the Trust.

To prepare and inform the Trust of new developments or implementation plans required as a result of legislation changes within the Mental Health Act or Mental Capacity Act.

Providing professional and line management for the Mental Health Law offices across the Trust.

Leading on the development, review and maintenance of policies, procedures and protocols required on behalf of the Mental Health Law Sub-Committee.

Ensuring that systems and processes are established and operating effectively for the service in relation to Mental Health Law.

Where required by the Mental Health Law Sub-Committee, to work in partnership with Commissioners, Local Authorities, Probation Services, Lancashire Police and other local service providers to ensure the continuing development and maintenance of protocols for Mental Health Law related issues.

Qualifications

Essential

Legal, Social Care or Mental Health Nursing Qualification - Degree level or equivalent Evidence of continuing professional development Appropriate management and/or postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience

Knowledge

Essential

Significant knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 and Mental Capacity Act 2005 Detailed understanding of mental health legislation in relation to the operational element of mental health services and wider health and social care agenda Has in-depth knowledge of the issues concerning people with mental health problems.

Experience

Essential

Experience at a senior management level Experience of writing specialist policies and procedures Experience of working with, managing and developing teams and systems to support service or legal requirement
