This is an opportunity for role in the new Quality, Safety and Improvement directorate of the NHS Wales Executive, to be part of our team at a busy and exciting time as we step-up our support to help NHS Wales improve care for the people of Wales.

Improvement Cymru is a core part of this directorate. Together we work alongside organisations to empower, embed and elevate improvements to quality and safety, delivering all-Wales improvement programmes to achieve quality and safety priorities.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the team delivering the newly funded Maternity and Neonatal Safety Support Programme (MatNeoSSP Wales) for NHS Wales, which aims to improve the safety, experience and outcomes of maternal and neonatal care and provide support to enable teams to deliver a high quality healthcare experience for all pregnant people, babies and families across maternity and neonatal care settings in Wales.

Local Safety Champion post holders are based within their existing Health Board, with the expectation of base location remaining as per their current NHS Wales contract.

Main duties of the job

To support MatNeoSSP we are looking to appoint a Local Safety Champion. This secondment post is offered on a part-time basis as follows:

Maternity Local Safety Champion - WTE

Working with the MatNeoSSP National Programme Leads and with Clinical Lead support, you will proactively deliver and coach MatNeo related improvement support to the service within your allocated Trust/Health Board. You will be required to work in partnership with local managers and team colleagues to assist problem solving and improvement/change potential and engage local stakeholders in the process of change.

The ideal candidate for this important role will be someone who is interested and has been involved in patient safety and service improvement. Particular skills such as influencing, teaching, and working with data will be essential. Candidates will be required to demonstrate their learning and practical examples of work in improvement and patient safety. Candidates should demonstrate an ambition for continuous learning.

Essential

oEducated to degree level or equivalent experience in a management role. oNMC or equivalent qualification oEvidence of continued professional development oCompleted/previously undertaken improvement training

oImprovement certification (Improvement in Practice, IHI, Lean etc.) oProject management qualification

Experience

oRecent clinical experience in chosen speciality at a level sufficient to enable use of diagnostic framework to identify service gaps oCollaboration and partnership working with multi-professional groups and staff at all levels oPresentation experience with multi-professional groups oExperience of successfully implementing projects requiring diagnostic tools, Audit oAuthoring reports for a senior audience
