What is the role?


As our new Health and Safety Coordinator, you will provide Health and Safety support to the organisation, including Support Services operations and other Central Departments, to help contribute to providing an environment which aids staff to provide high quality support to enable people supported to live happy and fulfilled lives.

You will help ensure compliance with health and safety regulatory frameworks and best practice relevant to health and social care.


You will report to the Health, Wellbeing & Engagement Manager who will support you in your role, providing opportunities to escalate high risk / complex cases where necessary.


Who are we looking for?

  • Be willing to work towards a Professional Qualification in Occupational Health and Safety and an Associate membership of IOSH
  • Experience of working within a health and safety role within a busy environment
  • Experience of working with systems to manage estates and facilities management
  • Experience of undertaking auditing activities from a health, safety and/or wellbeing perspective
  • Experience of undertaking risk assessments and incident investigations
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages
  • Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong IT skills associated with updating web content and designing posters or newsletters
  • Demonstrates commitment, motivation and positive approach to work
  • An understanding and awareness of the everyday challenges faced by people with learning disabilities
  • Knowledge of the regulations and legislation that applies to occupational health and safety
  • Knowledge of approaches to promote and support wellbeing in the workplace
  • Possess a driving licence, have access to a vehicle

Main duties / Responsibilities:

  • Coordination of annual schedule of PAT testing across entire mirus estate (support and offices), liaising with contractor, coordination and processing of compliance documentation, invoicing, and actions with managers.
  • Reviewing and support with processing of accident forms, following up reporting errors, and updating of internal systems to record actions. With support of H&S Manager, assess risk of accident to determine level of response. Follow up with relevant managers regarding case specific advice, and provide guidance regarding actions and action completion.
  • Preparing and sharing internal communication briefings and newsletters (print and electronic sources) to share best practice updates, advice and guidance
  • Providing support to the network of Mental Health Champions across the organisation.
  • Working closely with the Creative Communications Team to developing and updating wellbeing, safety and health content on the staff intranet and social media to support health and wellbeing campaigns.
  • Supporting the completion of annual housing reviews across the estate of support services, and supporting managers with followup in actions.
  • Maintaining a system of equipment ownership and compliance servicing.
  • Participate in the facilities management group covering the management of offices, and form part of the Housing Management Group for support services.
