Head of Social Impact & Stronger Communities - circa £100,000 for London


It's an exciting time to join Aviva's Sustainability Function, as we are currently searching for a commercially minded, yet innovative senior leader within the Social Impact / Social Action space - who is both a fantastic team leader, as well as a strong stakeholder influencer and brand ambassador.

We're looking for someone passionate about helping us focus, measure, boost and communicate the social impact we create in our business.

A bit about the job:


Leading a team of ESG professionals, you will define, design, and deliver a range of strategies and programmes, ensuring that Aviva has a world class social impact and value centre of expertise at the core of its current and future social impact and value plans.

This will require reaching out across the Aviva group and business lines internally and also building and running high profile, UK and international multi sector partnerships, representing Aviva externally on these issues, so that demonstrable social and business value is delivered - this strong external network will also ensure that Aviva takes and maintains leadership in this arena.

You will need to demonstrate and enjoy taking complex data and making it simple and decision useful - as you will be tasked with developing, implementing, and communicating our social impact and value measurement and evaluation framework (e.g., using total capital accounting).


Skills and experience we're looking for:

  • Extensive experience undertaking a senior social impact, social action, sustainability, or similarly focused position, for large & complex forward-thinking organisation (Financial Services experience would be highly desirable)
  • Strong leadership skills, with ability to develop and motivate a team of social action / sustainability professionals to become a world class team within this field
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills
  • both with internal leaders, to help them integrate social impact into their roles and business units, as well as with external contacts, to ensure that strong partnerships and forward-thinking programmes are created
  • i.e., you must be able to adapt and understand both internal business leaders, as well as third sector audiences
  • Strong communication style
  • i.e., being able to present successfully so you can tell powerful stories, as well as be a well networked, positive ambassador for social impact for our brand
  • Thought leadership and innovation are key traits for this role
  • as is the ability to measure, report and evaluate insights effectively

What you'll get for this role:

  • Annual salary of circa £100,000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications).
  • Generous pension (starting level Aviva contributes 8% when you contribute 2%)
  • Eligibility for annual performance bonus of between 0%
  • 50%
  • Long Term Incentive Plan (Restricted Stock Units) for high performers, between 10% and 30% of salary
