As the publicist, you will be responsible for managing publicity campaigns, including programme publicity, interactive content, and issues management.

The BBC Studios UK Communications team creates and delivers ambitious publicity plans to support trading and commercial relationships.

Working closely with the UK business divisions, marketing, and licensees plus the wider BBCS Communications team, the team are experts in licensing comms and trade licensing events, reputational management, and consumer publicity for brands.

Main Responsibilities

You will lead and take full responsibility for communications campaigns; work across a number of genres in the productions and brands communication team to deliver high-level communications strategies and campaigns.


Create and implement compelling and ambitious trade communications and publicity campaigns, interviews, launches, and stunts across priority products, services, and brands.


Generate innovative ways of increasing favourable media coverage and raising the profile of specific output/service, anticipate and manage issues with potentially negative impact; handling reactive issues as required.

Write clear, concise media information for programming/services and associated online and interactive content.


Collaborate and form good working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders; establish and maintain a network of contacts with the media, national and regional newspapers and magazines, websites, TV, radio, and online outlets.


Evaluate work, collecting and examining evidence to assess the impact of communications work, and distributing lessons to the wider team.


Coordinate press conferences, screenings, launches and briefings, previews, handling requests for interviews as and when needed, face-to-face audience engagement, and audience-facing events/activity.

Generate assets for use online and in social media and contribute to the running of social media accounts.

  • Proven record working in publicity, public relations, or journalism
  • Good understanding of the media environment (including social media) and the newsgathering process across radio, television, print, and online
  • Excellent news sense with the ability to write, clear and lively copy, which stimulates both the media and public interest
  • Excellent and proven creativity in campaigns and evidence of trying out new ideas and approaches to reach audiences
  • Superb interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain credibility and effective working relationships with a wide range of contacts at different levels
  • Excellent media contacts and knowledge and understanding of online and social media opportunities for a publicity campaign
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of all media outlets and the social media landscape
  • Proven organisational and planning skills that include managing multiple campaigns, organising/delivering events, and managing crises
  • Experience in television/entertainment publicity, an understanding and working knowledge of the broadcasting industry, and the ability to create, edit and produce digital assets for social media will be advantageous
