Head of Practice Development

National Role

£70 - £75K plus companycar or car allowance

35 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has opened up for an innovative Nurse to lead the Nursing workforce as Head of Practice Development at Sanctuary Care. Reporting to the Director of Quality and Clinical Improvement, the role involves designing, implementing, delivering, and maintaining a comprehensive program of academic, clinical, and pastoral support for internationally educated nurses across specialist nursing homes nationwide. This role plays a vital part in developing the clinical and nursing workforce to ensure they are well-prepared for the future, including facilitating the development of pre-registration student nurse and trainee nursing associate pathways.

Regular travel is required for this role, so possession of a valid driving license is essential.

The role of the Head of Practice Development includes:

  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining a program of academic and clinical practice to prepare internationally educated nurses for completion of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) and successful registration with the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Implementing appropriate pastoral support for internationally educated nurses to ensure effective integration and celebration of cultural diversity.
  • Establishing an internal support network and maintaining active engagement with the NMC forum for internationally educated nurses.
  • Building relationships with key healthcare partners and managing contractual relationships at various levels.
  • Identifying suitable universities to collaborate with for clinical practice placements.
  • Developing and implementing a preceptorship program to support newly registered nurses.
  • Participating in quality improvement projects to enhance care standards.
  • Representing the quality and clinical improvement team both internally and externally.

Skills and experience required:

  • Extensive post-registration nursing experience with recent clinical practice.
  • Knowledge of legislative and compliance requirements, as well as professional issues.
  • Experience in change management within challenging healthcare environments.
  • Proven leadership in senior nursing roles.
  • Background in education, training, teaching, and practice development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with universities and in learning environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing improvement projects and meeting deadlines.
  • A Masters degree in a relevant field.
