The role of the immersive and simulation technical facilitator is to support students, staff and partner organisations with accessing and using immersive and simulation technologies.


This role will encompass using immersive technologies across all of the college's curriculum areas, but a primary focus around health and social care and the work the college is doing with STW ICS, part of NHS England.


This role will be required to deliver immersive technology induction to both staff, students and partner organisation in a 1:1 and group-based scenarios - championing and promoting digital, immersive and simulation technologies throughout the college.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be expected to:

  • Responsible for setting-up immersive and simulation equipment as required for timetable session, including the immersive spaces were used for other purposes.
- facilitate and aid delivery of immersive and simulation sessions;
- plan, advise and explore the potential for immersive and simulation sessions.

  • Lead and develop induction session of immersive and simulation technologies to students, staff, and partner organisations, to ensure they are prepared for using the technologies in a safe manner.
  • Ensure that all immersive and simulation equipment is well maintained and ready for teaching, through internal maintenance and upgrades as well as working with external suppliers.
  • Responsible for ensuring that consumables and relevant replacement materials are well stock controlled, including the procurement and order of these items.
  • Explore the market of immersive and simulation technologies, equipment and software with the digital and learning resources lead to enhance the college's immersive and simulation offer.
  • Produce help guides for the digital services team around specific setup of specific technologies, in additional where appropriate produce help guides for the wider staff/students/partner use to enable immersive learning.
  • Act as the main point of contact for booking of immersive and simulation equipment and spaces including the timetabling of these session in ProSolution.
  • Act as a champion to promote the 'art of the possible' to raise awareness of the potential and benefits of using immersive and simulation technologies.
  • Maintain the immersive and simulation technologies asset register and conduct periodic audits to ensure confirmed location of all assets.
  • Support with the requirements/setup college's mobile teaching unit, at locations where required for use by the college, partner organisation or hirers.
  • Assist with wider immersive/IT/AV setups within the immersive and simulation locations, including setup of events, conferences, and welcome sessions where immersive technologies are used both on and off campus.
  • Support the digital and learning resources lead and the director of IT and digital innovation to ensure the college is always pushing the boundaries and being a leader in innovation in education.
Skills, knowledge and expertise

Qualifications and training:

  • Holds a teaching qualification
  • GCSE Grade A*C in Maths and English or equivalent

Skills and expertise:

  • Experience of working with young people
  • Experience of using immersive (AR/VR/MR) technologies
  • Experience of simulation in a health and social care sector and the use of highfidelity simulation mannequins
  • Excellent time management and selfdirection skills
  • Excellent communication skills, through a range of mediums
