Literacy Tutor and Lrc Officer

We are looking for a literacy tutor and LRC Assistant to encourage and support individual students to reach their full potential, whilst demonstrating a creative and determined attitude that will help motivate students.

You will be directly supporting thestudents in developing their core literacy skills.


This role has an added dimension in the development and management of a thriving learning resource centre where students can engage in and pursue an interest in reading and books.

You will form a key part of an ambitious and high achieving literacy teamand work with students from across the academy.


About Us


Our Academy delivers Cambridge Nationals L2 in Enterprise and Marketing, Creative iMedia, Science, Health & Social Care, P.E., and Cambridge Technical Extended Diplomas L3 in Art, Business, Health & Social Care, Science and Media.


Main Areas of Responsibility

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering appropriate literacy and language programmes to a range of students with identified special educational needs and/or literacy difficulties
  • Closely and regularly reviewing progress of students attending taught literacy interventions under the direction of the Literacy Coordinator
  • Closely and regularly reviewing the engagement of students attending taught literacy interventions
  • Assisting in the development of reading schemes and programmes to engage and interest learners in reading.
Your role as LRC Officer

  • Ensuring the smooth day to day operation of the LRC
  • Prioritising books to be ordered (e.g. new and popular books, student requests, teacher recommendations)
  • Keeping the LRC tidy and in order
  • Administer the process for issuing, renewing and returning resources
  • Guiding and assisting students and staff in selecting and locating books
  • Assisting students with literature searches using databases, printed resources and the internet
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff and students
  • Maintaining relationships with external bodies, such as suppliers
  • Checking the school calendar for upcoming events, displaying themed books accordingly and decorating the library if required
  • Performing duty in the library before and after school and at lunch time and break times, monitoring student behaviour
  • Keeping up to date with developments in the library sector and participate in professional groups or network
  • Organising World Book Day celebrations

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualifications to GCSE Level standard or equivalent, with at least 1 years'
experience of working in a school

  • Knowledge of Microsoft software;
  • Knowledge of a range of learning barriers including special needs
  • Some knowledge of some of the social issues facing students from disadvantaged backgrounds
