On the back of multiple successes within our growing Major Projects division, we have an opportunity for a Principal Mechanical Engineer, to join us in the Renfrew or Teesside area to lead Greenfield and Brownfield projects across Carbon Capture, Hydrogen, Pharmaceutical, Chemical, and Oil & Gas sectors. This role is an opportunity to have a major impact on several ground-breaking projects and help to shape the future of the industries in which we work.

Our new Principal Mechanical Engineer will have expertise in engineering principles and practices as well as a deep understanding of regulations, codes and industry standards to solve complex engineering problems, ensuring the most efficient and economical solutions are applied to meet project objectives whilst complying with health, safety, environmental, and security requirements.

You will lead a high-performing team to complete varying assignments including mechanical design calculations and approving specifications and datasheets for all types of mechanical equipment. Serving as a technical consultant, you will advise on mechanical design, analysis, and implementation. You will coordinate the integration of mechanical designs with engineering disciplines and manage vendors to achieve project deliverables within budget and on schedule.

The candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing, to build effective relationships and encourage feedback from others. You will drive continuous improvement of engineering standards and practices within the organisation and collaborate with stakeholders and management to deliver proposals, estimate costs, input to plans and develop execution strategies. You will participate in reviews related to constructability, operability, and maintainability. You will work to resolve issues with site personnel and provide on-site support for construction and commissioning.

Backed by a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, with a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in similar industries, our ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successful mechanical project delivery and the ability to assist the project management team with issues affecting project completion and profitability, plans, controls & reports on project work. We are looking for someone who has obtained or working towards Chartered accreditation with the IMechE.
