We're looking for a Principal Delivery Lead to join our Transformation team in our UK Insurance business. This role is accountable for driving delivery of large complex change initiatives spanning multiple simultaneous & connected deliveries, utilising the appropriate identified delivery methodology (e. g. waterfall or agile).

You will be working with business leads and business stakeholders to define, plan, and deliver the defined outcomes in line with business & performance unit strategies.

The Principal Delivery Lead will be responsible for task leadership of business & change resources to deliver defined outcomes. The holder will be responsible for taking on the assigned leading role in line with the methodology applied (e.g. Programme Manager or Delivery Lead).


With the customer experience at the heart of decisions, this role is responsible for delivering the defined business benefits and outcomes and closely managing the cost of delivery.


How you'll help us make health happen:

  • Leadership of the planning, shaping and management of large complex change initiatives in line with the identified delivery methodology to deliver defined business benefits & outcomes.
  • Including creating and managing optimised delivery plans, including continual planning processes in a complex environment. You can plan beyond project and product delivery.
  • Negotiate, influence, and set budgets in complex environments,
  • Identify, set, and manage critical success factors and project delivery.
  • Develop both agile and waterfall delivery plans in complex project setups, utilising a range of tools and skills to create, structure and manage delivery of value.
  • Drive pace of delivery, creating a sense urgency, delivering results even in difficult circumstances
  • Lead the appropriate delivery teams in a matrix approach, negotiating and influencing with resource managers to ensure they are optimised to achieve the agreed outcomes, for exle.
  • Heads of Change & Transformation delivery on the Identification and management of the necessary change resource, and Business leads on the Identification and management of the necessary business resources & SMEs, and IT managers to ensure IT resources are planned for and used effectively.
  • Support change across multiple teams and varying team maturities and methodologies, using different methods and data points. Able to play role of Agile Release Train Engineer across multiple teams as well as Scrum Master.
  • Ensure high quality and challenging relationships with Executive Sponsors and Business Leads (and other senior leaders across the business) to achieve effective and efficient delivery of the defined business outcomes. Effectively adapting your approach and demeanour in real time to align with different situations.
  • Encourage effective working relationships with colleagues across Bupa and with third parties to gain their commitment, support, and resource to deliver project work. Successfully coordinating the sub initiatives (projects and workstreams in waterfall & scrums in agile) and their dependencies, ensuring clear management and control of scope, budget, and quality.
  • Use judgement to determine when it is necessary to escalate through established escalation channels, and where necessary the Delivery Hub, in a timely manner.
  • Ensure robust and measurable business/value cases, with clearly identified and traceable commercial outcomes at all times.
  • Take responsibility for complex relationships with contracted suppliers. Identify appropriate contractual frameworks and identify appropriate suppliers.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and facilitate discussions about high risk and complexity even within constrained timescales.
  • Effectively deal with problems involving multiple teams and stakeholder groups. Problems you work with involve multiple domains e.g. a problem that involves business, software, and infrastructure domains.

Key Skills/Qualifications needed for this role:

  • Strong, credible Change Leader who has extensive experience of leading large delivery teams, in business and IT change, to deliver complex change to drive significant business benefits.
  • Highly results oriented and focussed on adding value to Bupa. Strong commercial acumen and broad business awareness.
  • Must be able to demonstrate strong stakeholder management skills across a wide range of different senior stakeholders, including Board level reporting.
  • Must be able to thrive in pressurised environments, with a clear approach to decision making and tenacious approach to problem solving, constantly searching, and striving for effective solutions.
