Role Purpose:
To manage and support staff so they can perform their roles safely and to the best of their ability.
Supporting the Service Manager run the allocated home effectively according to standards and legislation.
Acting as a positive role model to colleagues and Young People developing care plans that outline what care and support individuals need.
Person Specification Age:21years +
Essential Experience:1-year experience in support complex young people and people management
Essential Knowledge:
Safeguarding
Managing Challenging behaviours
Managing young people's conflict
Essential Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively and offer advice, guidance, practical support that meets the needs of the young people
Ability to respond to a crisis whist remaining calm and working as an active member of a team
Lead a team of staff to effectively run a residential home
Ability to report verbally and in writing
Retaining partnership work
Continuous Development:
To develop knowledge and expertise to adapt within the sector
Roles & Responsibilities
Supporting manager with service audits/reviews to ensure the service is meeting the needs of the young people
Be the first point of contact for support workers, Lead on handovers, Lease directly with senior management
Maintain & establish effective communication and positive relationship with young people and staff
Providing intensive, high level practical support in response to crisis/relapse situations
Ensure the safety of all children and staff, and that safeguarding practice, procedures and recording meet all current requirements and expectations.
Ensure that effective placement plans, risk assessments, risk management and health care plans, and all relevant documentation, are in place and up to date.
Regulation & Safeguarding
To ensure that each children's home meets and exceeds the standards and expectations
Ensure the safety of all young people and staff, and that safeguarding practice, procedures and recording meet all current requirements and expectations.
Ensure all quality assurance issues remain a key focus by way of regularly seeking feedback on service provisions
To investigate complaints and attend community meetings as and when required
Recognising and reporting safeguarding concerns and carrying out health and safety inspections and duties
Understand the importance of planning, monitoring, reviewing, recording keeping and safeguarding in relation to young people
Maintaining administrative records, timesheets, etc
Organisational Key Deliverables
Understand Young people communication needs and use the appropriate tools and resources
Understand the challenges young people face within our current climate the use of the Pathways to Independent, Life skills and Outcome Stars
Understand the use of safeguarding procedures and Mental capacity Act guidance
Knowledge of young people's statutory, voluntary and community resources for Health, Education, Employment, Training and Leisure
Understand and use the health and safety procedures for safe lone working, risk assessment and property inspection
Understand and use relevant record keeping software and resources to be able to produce accurate and timely information
General Technical Competencies
Familiar with regulatory and good practice standards for the role with an appropriate formal qualification such as NVQ level 3 or above
To preferably have completed QCF (NVQ) Level 3 Children and Young People's Workforce (Residential Childcare) or above
Maintain professional conduct by referring to New Era Residence policies, procedures, guidelines, and best practice
Staff Engagement / Retention
- Staff morale ensuring this is at the highest level possible
- Staff efficiency capable staff with strong ability in both care and achievement
