Shared Lives Officer

Warrington, Warrington, United Kingdom MacIntyre Full time

Are you great at mentoring and encouraging people? Do you have experience working in Social Care? Have you heard of Shared Lives?
Shared Lives is the little-known alternative to home care and care homes for disabled adults and older people. It is used by around 12,000 people in the UK and is available in nearly every area.

We know the potential of families and communities contributing to the well-being of people with support needs, and of those people being active, valued citizens.

Shared Lives aims to enable people with a disability to live gloriously ordinary lives, with real relationships, rather than receive a 'service'.

Some Shared Lives Carers have people living with them full-time as part of their family, and some provide a home away from home for short breaks, some offer day time or evening support.

We have run the Shared Lives scheme in Warrington for 11 years and have recently been successful to join with another scheme so are going to grow.

That's where you come in

Based at our Warrington office, you'll be involved in finding new carers, assessing them and their homes to check their suitability and presenting them to a panel of colleagues.

Once approved, Carers are matched with someone looking for support.

You will also meet and assess people referred to the scheme, and complete support plans, risk assessments and other documentation with them and their families, where appropriate.

You will be supported by the Shared Lives Manager and Area Manager and will be a part of the MacIntyre team in Warrington.

What our Shared Lives Carers say
"Being a Shared Lives Carer fits with my own family and interests and gives us a real sense of achievement as a couple. The person is part of our family for the time he is with us."

"I prefer being a Shared Lives Carer to support work because I can focus on one person's preferences and needs. I have got so much out of it too. I have learned about myself and developed new skills, I know new people in my community."

"Being a Shared Lives Carer has opened doors for me, I have new opportunities. I have enjoyed building a positive relationship based on trust and support with the person and their family."

About you
We're looking for people who share our values and who celebrate differences. We strive to make all our staff feel included, valued and respected.

Ideally you'll have experience working with adults who have support needs, or have relevant family experience.

You'll be well organised, with good IT skills.

Your friends would probably describe you as having a warm, encouraging personality, and someone who's a good judge of character.

You'll need to be a driver with your own transport, as you will be meeting with Carers and new referrals across Warrington.
