Crown Estate Scotland has an exciting opportunity for a Head of Corporate Affairs to join our team on a full time permanent basis.

This is a leadership position reporting to the Director of Corporate Operations and working closely with the Executive Team.

The Head of Corporate Affairs works at a strategic level to raise awareness of Crown Estate Scotland, overseeing and driving all aspects of corporate affairs activity including public affairs, internal and external communications, brand, and events.


About the role

  • Overall responsibility for developing and managing a roster of agencies (e.g., design, print, copywriting, communications campaigns) and associated contracts ensuring high quality services are delivered on time and on budget.
  • Work with senior managers on the development of integrated communications and engagement plans and strategies for key projects, including property investment and development projects. Develop and implement a campaign approach to projects as appropriate.
  • Provide effective and proactive leadership to the Corporate Affairs team, ensuring performance and development are optimised.
  • Identify and manage potential risks and issues, escalating to the Director of Corporate Operations as appropriate. Provide objective, meaningful, and achievable interventions to mitigate these risks.
  • Ensure an integrated approach to internal and external communications.
  • Oversee the delivery of the internal communications strategy Ensure effective research, evaluation & monitoring to support continual improvement and identification of emerging issues.
  • Ensure Corporate Affairs team delivers ongoing training across the business to communicate effectively, inclusively, and confidently with a range of audiences, promoting communications and engagement as a core skill Lead the team in fostering productive relationships with key influencers.
  • Lead across Crown Estate Scotland on embedding emerging guidance and best practice on inclusive communications to support our internal and external work on equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Act as a spokesperson and advocate for Crown Estate Scotland
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of a consistent and creative brand for CES Oversee CA input into statutory reporting and corporate publications such as the annual report and the annual business plan.
  • Lead and oversee work to ensure our websites have a consistent tone and style, and that they present complex information in a transparent and accessible way
  • Manage the CA budget
  • Lead on delivery of Corporate Affair's business plan objectives
  • Role model continuing professional development and embed industry best practice (e.g. as set by CIPR and PRCA) 2.

The Successful Applicant:

  • Hold CIPR Chartered Practitioner status or equivalent.
  • Have experience of working in relevant industries and sectors (e.g. renewable energy, property investment / development, landbased sectors e.g. farming,)
  • Have extensive experience in a communications leadership role either inhouse or agency, including both proactive work and reactive/issues management
  • Be experienced in financial management including budget preparation and control of minimum £0.5m
  • Have experience in leading the development of creative campaigns/solutions covering paid, owned, earned and social channels
  • Hold several years managing agencies, suppliers and contracts ensuring quality services are delivered on time and on budget
  • Be experienced in engaging with UK and Scottish political stakeholders
