Acting as your entry point into the NHS, you will receive the training, support, and supervision you need to become a Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) or more commonly known as a Healthcare Assistant (HCA).

About the Trust

_We have a unique opportunity to learn on the job at __Stockport NHS Foundation Trust_
_ Depending on your skills and experience, you will join a 3-month paid supervised placement programme._

_Stockport NHS Foundation Trust provides a wide range of services including trauma,_

_orthopaedics, and cancer treatment at hospital and community sites across Stockport and_

_the High Peak. One of the few specialist centres in Greater Manchester for stroke treatment,_

_emergency and high-risk general surgery, staff can provide high quality care whilst enjoying_

_both country and city life with the Peak District, Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds nearby._

What the programme involves


During our programme you will work through the 15 Standards of the Care Certificate, learning how to meet the daily living needs of your patients as well as being a part of the NHS healthcare team.

This includes supporting registered Nurses and other healthcare practitioners in providing patient care, from hygiene to personal and physical comfort.

Main Responsibilities

As a trainee HCSW
, you'll learn key skills, such as:

  • Meeting the daily living needs of your patients, from hygiene to personal and physical comfort.
  • Taking basic observations, explaining treatment and updating patient records.
  • Supporting patients with mobility, assisting at mealtimes, as well as speaking with patients.
  • Assisting in preparing for clinical procedures and cleaning the environment afterwards.
  • Working individually and as part of a team, supporting registered Nurses and other healthcare practitioners in providing patient care.
  • Comply with Trust and local policies and procedures including Safeguarding, Infection Prevention and Control.

What you'll need:

  • At least 3 months healthcare experience within the last 2 years
:

  • A passion for care as well as following the six enduring values that underpin 'compassion in practice'.

The 6Cs are defined as:
Care, Compassion, Competence, Communication, Courage, and Commitment.

  • To be
    over the age of 18 or turning 18 before placement.
  • Able to work at least 30 hours a week across earlies, lates and nights during the programme.
