Purpose of the Role:
To maintain an efficient and safe service regarding the movement of trains at Basford Hall and the satellite sites. To control and use effectively all traincrew complying with laid down regulations.

Liaise and document efficiently with Freightliner HH and Intermodal controls as well as the shift manager, so to ensure a quality product is delivered by the Freightliner organisation.

To liaise and direct team operatives under your control to produce a quality shunting service for the company and its customers, whilst maintaining laid down Freightliner Heavy Haul standards of competency.


Main duties and responsibilities:


Responsible for booking conciliation staff on and off duty and assessing their fitness for Duty and recording activities as required by Freightliner organisation.

Take action as necessary to remove accident hazards, informing the L.D.C. manager of any items requiring further attention.


Responsible for the efficient traffic working in the Basford Hall complex and satellite sites in dealing with through, terminating and starting services to ensure minimum delay occurs, liaising with the relevant controls and signalmen as necessary.

Deal with trains requiring to detach as necessary.

Take an interest in the whole of the yard, including all satellite sites.


To co-ordinate timely delivery and collection of wagons to and from the Basford Hall complex and satellite sites to ensure an efficient operation.

Informing the shift manager, relevant controls of any unsatisfactory features, which have an adverse effect on train performance.

Advise the shift manager and relevant controls of any abnormal circumstances affecting traffic working which will affect yard performance.


In the event of accidents or incidents, control and assess response required, whilst directing staff within your control to assess and work round resulting problems safely.

Ensure locomotives for the fuel point are dispatched & collected promptly.

Manage responsibility in connection with HASAW i.e. ensure staff keep the workplace safe, keep it clean and tidy.


Maintain good housekeeping practices by ensuring the work environment is cleared of debris and waste inside and outside the accommodations.

Ensure compliance with delegated internal control checks as laid down on the internal control procedures.

Liaise with and ensure security issues are dealt with in the company's interest.

Undertake other duties as directed by the shift manager

Make efforts to ensure that staff are managed fairly and objectively

Ensure that Freightliners no smoking policy and drug and alcohol policy is adhered to.
