Job summary:

The Royal Navy has recently outsourced the majority of its training to Team Fisher.

Key to the delivery of modern Royal Navy training is the effective maintenance and support of training equipment to ensure it is fit-for-purpose.

The Training Management Group (TMG), within the Personnel and Training (P&T)

Directorate, is the Authority and performs the 'customer' function to manage:
the contract. The TMG's role is to supervise, assure, consult, inform and influence the way the Contractor delivers its services.


As head of the TMG Training Equipment (TS) Support pillar you will lead the training support team and work collaboratively with the Contractor (Team Fisher) to modernise and maintain the various Training Systems within TMG.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description:


The Head of Training Support will lead a multi-disciplinary team of 8 civil servants and military in support of the delivery of RN Training.

The main duties of the TMG TS pillar is to lead on ensuring that all in-scope training systems are operational, secure, safe to operate and fit-for purpose.

The role requires management of change, obsolescence and upgrade works and acceptance and solving a wide variety of problems.

It will involve engaging with personnel across organisational boundaries and interacting with multiple contractors from different suppliers to manage successful delivery of programmes and projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the training support pillar to deliver programmes/projects.
  • Coordinate security, safety and environmental assurance, inc. liaising with accrediting organisations and oversight / assurance of Contractor security management.
  • Support the identification, prioritisation, generation, specification and management of change, upgrade and/or replacement acquisition projects, and new requirements / change.
  • Risk management.
  • Liaising with onsite contractor teams and RN end users to resolve trainer issues;
  • Ensure trainers are managed, maintained and operated by the Contractor as per the Authority's safety and security requirements and metrics (correct availability, reliability and maintainability);
  • Performance reporting, holding to account.
  • Support Commercial enact the KPI incentive regime for trainer performance incentives;
  • Support Finance management of contractor payments and financial forecasting.
  • Coordinate policy compliant decommissioning and Disposal of trainers.
