We are seeking a Days Based Maintenance Engineer to join our team at Nestlé Purina in Sudbury.

Our Sudbury factory, with a workforce of 200, produces some of the UK's most beloved brands such as Go-Cat, Bakers, Purina ONE, BETA, and Pro Plan, catering to every pet owner's needs. Situated in the picturesque Stour valley, Sudbury is a charming town surrounded by stunning natural landscapes, making it an ideal location for animal enthusiasts. Additionally, London is just a 45-minute train ride away from nearby Colchester.

A day in the life of a Days Based Maintenance Engineer...

As a Maintenance Engineer, you will be involved in implementing and executing the factory's asset maintenance program, focusing on minimizing unplanned downtime, optimizing maintenance costs, and increasing asset performance. Your role includes maintaining a set of production assets, following an engineering strategy to drive your area towards world-class standards in safety, quality, cost, and service.

Other key responsibilities will include:

  • To uphold machine conditions through reactive, preventative, and predictive maintenance activities.
  • Address breakdowns and contribute to line enhancements across the factory, becoming the Subject Matter Expert for your designated area.
  • Cultivate a culture of safety, eliminate risks, and ensure all work adheres to engineering standards and safety protocols.
  • Comply with Nestlé's quality policies, specifically in engineering change management and line release.
  • Document breakdowns, conduct root cause analysis, and take charge of follow-up actions.
  • Support Root Cause Analysis projects and practices.
  • Assist in developing the skills of Shift Technicians, Apprentice Technicians, and the AM team by following the site's TPM roadmap.

What will make you successful?

To excel in this role, you should ideally have experience in FMCG manufacturing maintenance, whether as a Technician, Shift Engineer, or Maintenance Engineer, and possess a strong service-oriented approach with proactive initiative and a drive for continuous improvement.

Other desired experiences and attributes:

  • Hold an apprenticeship level NVQ 3 in Engineering, preferably with an Electrical bias.
  • Demonstrate mechanical understanding and awareness of food safety/food handling.
  • Ability to comprehend and adhere to strict hygiene regulations.
  • Experience in Planned Preventative Maintenance for assets.
  • Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis tools and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Understanding of Lean manufacturing tools, including TPM.
  • Display strong teamwork skills.
