Systems Engineering Managers

Sheffield, Sheffield, United Kingdom Randstad Cpe London Full time £52,891 - £55,883
Systems Engineering Manager

Contract:
Permanent

Sheffield (Hybrid Working or Onsite)

The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) brings together the local authorities of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield and to serve the communities and businesses of South Yorkshire.

From transport to housing, from business growth to skills, the MCA has a great story to tell.

The system comprises 32 vehicles, 29km of twin track with electrified overhead line equipment, 50 tram stops, 12 substation and various other civils, signalling and communications assets.

The network also contains the UK's first tram-train service which sees light rail vehicles travel over both light and heavy rail infrastructure (owned by Network Rail) between Sheffield city centre and the neighbouring town of Rotherham.

The system is owned and managed by SYMCA, with operations and maintenance recently transferring to South Yorkshire Future Trams Limited (a wholly owned subsidiary of SYMCA) following the end of Stagecoach's 27-year contract.

This includes complete renewal of all Supertram systems including SCADA, tram management and control (including signalling, radio, communications systems), and customer facilities (including CCTV, PA and help points).

We are also exploring options for extending the tram network in line with our Mayor's transport vision.

As the Systems Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that the Supertram systems assets are safe and complaint with all legislation and best industry practice, ensuring SYMCA's responsibilities and duties as asset owner are appropriately managed and discharged.

You will own the strategic asset management plan for systems assets to provide SYMCA with visibility of asset condition, risks and future investment needs.

A key part of the job will be to work collaboratively with the operator to understand emerging issues and provide proportionate assurance over their maintenance activities to satisfy SYMCA that effective maintenance is being undertaken in line with the Operating Agreement, agreed maintenance plans, and key performance indicators.

You will provide technical expertise on all matters relating to Supertram systems, providing technical assurance of asset changes delivered by the Operator or SYMCA's Project Teams, acting as sponsor for such changes to the assets.

This will include activities including complete renewal of all Supertram systems including SCADA, tram management and control (including signalling, radio, communications systems), and customer facilities (including CCTV, PA and help points), and any developments from proposals for extensions.

#You will be a technical expert on engineering systems typically found on light rail networks, with experience working in a similar engineering/asset management role within the heavy or light rail industry (ideally with a professional qualification/membership of an engineering solution). You will have demonstrable knowledge and technical competence in a discipline relating to the systems found in light or heavy rail, with an understanding of relevant associated standards and legislation. You will have experience of managing the performance of others (whether that be suppliers or contractors), with experience working on renewal, upgrade and maintenance of assets forming the engineering systems.

All colleagues have access to a local Government Pension Scheme and the chance to be part of an organisation where you can really make a difference.

Located in Sheffield City Centre, we are well-placed for transport links and encourage employees to take advantage of the active travel facilities.

Work/life balance is extremely important to us here at SYMCA with our recognised family/friendly policies, genuine work flexibility, recognition, and shared success.

Annual Leave Purchase Scheme – The ability to purchase up to a further 15 days per year in additional to your normal annual leave
Hybrid working – Our offices are a space where we come together and collaborate.

Most of our roles are offered on a hybrid basis with the exception of some support roles being onsite full time.

Rewarding You - Reducing everyday expenses through discounts, benefits, financial advice, wellbeing solutions and more with Reward Gateway
Training on the job - Support with upskilling skills through on the job training and qualifications
Holiday – Up to 36 days annual leave (depending on length of service). Pro-rata for part time colleagues. Diversity at South Yorkshire Combined Mayoral Authority

Our workforce is made up of a diverse community, where we all belong and feel part of something bigger.

We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from individuals, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic background, religion and/or belief.

We will consider flexible working requests for all roles unless operational requirements prevent otherwise.
