We have a fantastic opportunity for a Head of Real Estate to join the John Crane team.

As a Head of Real Estate you will be overseeing and coordination responsibilities for John Cranes global property portfolio which consists of 200 properties across 50 countries with a large concentration of industrial and manufacturing facilities.

Manage and optimise property leases and disposals in accordance with Smiths and John Crane Policies.

in addition to a wide variety of administrative matters, involving documentation, communication and correspondence related to legal issues, contract review, and special projects.


This role is a fixed term contract based from our headquarters within Slough working Monday to Friday normal office hours.

Duties & Responsibilities (not limited to)

  • Managing global assets, including leasehold and freehold properties while being the single point of contact for John Crane real estate to liaise with external property management firm, Group management, Divisional, regional, and local management concerning all aspects of the global property portfolio.
  • Responsible for chairing the monthly property committee meeting with Exco sponsors, ensuring property business cases are brought before the committee in a timely manner.
  • Liaise and collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as finance, legal, operations, and business units, to ensure their understanding of the PPC expectations for document delivery.
  • Leading on large scale and complex real estate projects ensuring effective stakeholder engagement and alignment to company and group strategy.
  • Working with the Smiths group property and 3rd Party Agents support the development and implementation of John Cranes property strategy related to freehold sales, lease acquisitions, lease renewals, rent reviews, facilities management, utilities, and other related services.
  • Regular and systematic analysis of the portfolio to identify opportunities for savings or cost mitigation over lease events.
  • Responsible for working with 3rd party property managers to ensure compliance and review of all property critical dates including; lease expiries, rent reviews, break options, renewals etc.
  • Implementing property initiatives to support the company's sustainability strategy.
  • Communicate property contracts and agreements with landlords, and service providers to key internal stakeholders, ensuring transparency of the terms and conditions.
- : Prepare documentation for committee review in PowerPoint & Excel. Facilitate and maintain updates to external database and electronic documentation archives.

  • Create and distribute meeting minutes for circulation to the PPC (Property Portfolio Committee).
  • Coordinate with regional partners to ensure workflow protocols are maintained and that business cases comply with policy.
  • Liaise and collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as finance, legal, operations, and business units, to ensure their understanding of the PPC expectations for document delivery.

The Individual

  • Extensive property experience in a leadership capacity within a large, multisite organization.
  • Technical experience of dealing with global real estate matters along with a willingness to learn and understand global real estate practices.
  • Proven ability to manage complex transactions and capital projects, preferably within the industrial sector.
  • Must be able to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely to all levels of management.
  • Solid understanding of corporate policy development and enforcement, compliance with internal and external controls, as well as general business knowledge and strong attention to detail are key.
  • Willingness to travel required.
  • Flexibility in working arrangements.
