Clinical Research Fellow in Gastroenterology

A degree in Medicine (MBBS or equivalent) and full MRCP or equivalent is essential, as is full General Medical Council registration.

They must have minimum experience as an ST4 in Gastroenterology.

- and out-patient setting and will attend IBD and one general gastroenterology clinic. Working in a team of registrars, the post-holder may be required to look after Gastroenterology in-patients, participate in ward rounds and out-patient clinics as per the needs of the service.

The Department is closely integrated with the Department of Hepatology at St Mary's Hospital and the Department of Pancreatic/Biliary Surgery at the Hammersmith.

The Gastroenterology service has close links to the upper gastrointestinal surgery and HPB surgery, which are based at the Hammersmith Hospital; and to the colorectal service based at Charing Cross.

It is extremely well supported by the Histopathology and Radiology departments. There are also close links with the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Bariatric service.


They will participate in the acute medical take (including night shifts) and in the ongoing care of patients admitted via the take until their discharge or triage to a different medical team.

They will provide out-of-hours ward cover on an on-call rota. They will be expected to take an active role in education, audit and research. Admission rates to Medicine from the Emergency Department can vary quite significantly with the seasons. The post holder is expected to support consultant lead care to all patients managed by the Acute Medicine team regardless of their location
