Kilburn**The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) Commercial Function is responsible for delivering end-to-end commercial lifecycle management and supporting the wider business in working with third parties.

The MPS spends c£2bn each year on a diverse range of goods and services and we aim to procure them in the most cost effective and compliant way, while satisfying often-urgent operational needs.

Commercial Services includes five category pillars - i) Covert and Counter Terrorism Policing, ii) Digital, Data and Technology, iii) Corporate and Professional Services, iv) Property and Operations - and v) an Enablement and Performance team.

The MPS Commercial Function are in the middle of a large-scale transformation, working to deliver the following strategic aims:

Role Description
This role is an integral part of Commercial Services.

In 2020, the MPS Commercial Function revised its operating model, establishing the above Pillars which have overall accountability for activity covering the commercial life cycle, as well as relevant Business Partnering responsibilities across the wider business.

This role supports all aspects of Income Management within the Commercial Services team.


This is an exciting and varied role, which will give you the chance to support all aspects of the commercial life cycle within MPS, including sourcing of goods and services as well as contracting with third parties to deliver income generation.


You will provide the necessary advice and support to Business Groups and third party organisations & suppliers to settle contracts and SLAs in line with these Police Act provisions.

You will ensure that organisational risk (financial, legal and operational) is managed, and provide transparent financial reporting and analysis.

You will also support and deputise for the Commercial Manager in matters of Intellectual Property management and revenue generation.


In addition to this you will provide administrative support to the wider Commercial Services pillar in pursuit of sourcing and contract management.


The role is part of a team of two staff whom, together, will be responsible for all matters of income generation and brand management within Commercial Services.

You will contribute to delivering Commercial Excellence for the Met, providing a customer focused service, understanding the business need and stakeholder drivers, with the aim of becoming a trusted commercial advisor.

The role will enable you to develop your skills, experience and knowledge of business, commercial and procurement principles, processes and practices.

It will also provide training opportunities for your continued professional development.

Key Responsibilities

_ What does the average day look like? Your core duties may include (but are not limited to):_
Implementation of income, intellectual property and licensing contracts, using a thorough understanding of the appropriate legislation

  • Completion of financial transactions and reportingManagement of the MPS brand, ensuring we do not enter into problematic relationships and are not exposed to operational, financial or PR risksManagement of events sponsorship identifying opportunities to increase revenue with a good awareness of the commercial landscape.

Representing the MPS to commercial partners and building relationshipsWorking closely with Band B manager to assist in managing the MPS IP portfolio for both brand protection and revenue generation purposes.

Assisting with the expansion and general operations of the MPS shop, including ways to optimise the function in partnership with the MBS programme.

Working closely with the Corporate Pillar of Commercial Services to assist as required with matters relating to sourcing and contract management.

Regularly deputising for Commercial Manager.
