Learner Wellbeing Practitioner

Leeds, Leeds, United Kingdom Leeds City College Full time

This is an exciting opportunity to join Leeds City College as a Learner Wellbeing Practitioner in our Outstanding 14+ Academies (14+ Apprenticeship Academy and 14+ P-TECH Academy).

The post holder will work closely with learners in supporting their attendance, mental health and wellbeing in order to progress their engagement in education.

The 14+ Academies is an alternative environment for young people in Years 10 and 11 who require a different education environment to what is offered in a mainstream school.

Learners leave their previous education establishment and join the 14+ Academies roll full time.

The 14+ Academies is a safe and inclusive environment that is accepting of everyone.

The design and ethos of the 14+ Academies allows young people to flourish with smaller class sizes, a reduced curriculum, and focus on vocational based learning.

The 14+ Academies provides opportunities to young people to maximise their potential, raise aspirations and embrace their individuality.

Relationship building is at the heart of it's ethos, and a high staff to student ratio allows learners to thrive and develop holistically.

We are seeking a experienced, driven and dynamic individual to undertake this role and explore this incredible opportunity to contribute to the continued success of the 14+ Academies.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The main duties of this role will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Create action plan next steps for learners who are, or at risk of, becoming disengaged with education, especially those with barriers around mental health and wellbeing.
  • Offer a range of support to young people, including 11 and small group interventions, as well as leading on whole 14+ Academies initiatives.
  • Liaise as required with other groups and agencies and individuals who may be in contact with young people, e.g. CAMHS, GPs, MindMate, social workers, parents and carers, including those learners who are Child Looked After.
  • Assist on the 14+ Academies attendance strategy and monitoring ensuring consistency and compliance across all 14+ Academies and working predominantly with learners who have very low attendance.
  • Relevant qualification and training in mental health and wellbeing support
  • Experience and knowledge of supporting young people both academically and developmentally, including those aged 141
  • Experience of working with learners with complex safeguarding barriers as well as those who are Child Looked After
  • Experience supporting young people with low attendance
  • The ability to form meaningful and impactful relationships quickly whilst implementing effective intervention strategies
