Job Description Site Maintenance Operative


The MTP Site Assistant will lead on the general day to day maintenance jobs, assist with project management and statutory compliance of the MTP site under the guidance of the Site Manager.

Reporting to the MTP School Business Manager for MTP operational support issues.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

General:

  • Property maintenance repairs include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, tiling, painting and decorating. Frequently inspect facilities to proactively detect potential problems and recommend/undertake the necessary repair and maintenance.
  • Inspect the quality of contracted maintenance work, rectifying issues with the contractor.
  • Support other team members in their CPD within the Maintenance Department.
  • Help with the development of maintenance procedures.
  • Assist in the daily seasonal management of site equipment both inside and outside.
  • Provide immediate response to emergencies across the site, keeping the Site Manager and School Business Manager informed of action taken.
  • Communicate directly with building occupants to resolve service requests.
  • Assist with daily minibus driving/transport requirements.
  • Provide support for school events (set up and car parking), including productions and other evening events.
  • Provide daily car park supervision and control at drop off and collection times.
  • Assist onward distribution of deliveries across the MTP Site.
  • Assist in management of onsite security (24 hours) and safety, including lights, gate access, and alarms.
  • Join the Duty Out of Hours rota security call out for holiday/weekends and evenings. Deputising for the Site Manager when required.
  • Assist with emergencies eg. pandemic cleaning measures such as daily refilling handwashing stations and topping up hand sanitiser units as and when required.
  • Assist with preparation/movement of sets and props for drama and music productions.
  • Be prepared to undertake any relevant training for the position held.

Contractors and Site Works:

  • Assist in the monitoring of compliance works schedule and ensure works are booked in accordance.
  • Help ensure plant rooms are free from hazards and in full operation across the MTP site.
  • Assist contractors on site (including checking/chasing all compliance paperwork requirements), following security, ie. Covid School RA (if applicable) and safeguarding procedures as needed.
  • As delegated by the Site Manager or School Business Manager manage contractors/projects during term and holiday periods.
  • Be responsible for the safety and security of all tools, materials, equipment used, ensuring H&S related legislation and codes of practice are always adhered to.

Health & Safety & Compliance Responsibilities:

  • Assist Site Manager on a weekly H&S inspection.
  • Report all H&S risks identified across the MTP Site to the School Business Manager directly.
  • Under guidance from Site Manager conduct weekly testing of the fire alarm system (at the Manor and Prep School) and termly fire drills, maintaining accurate records for inspection. Deputising for the Site Manager/Senior Fire Warden as and when required.
  • Undertake relevant training to perform staff Display Screen Equipment (DSE) assessments weekly.
  • Be proactive every day in looking for and flagging any hazards that would jeopardise the safety of anyone on the school site, informing School Business Manager and Site Manager.
  • Have an awareness of/input into risk assessments for the MTP Site, comply with Health and Safety, fire regulations, manual handling etc.
  • Assist Grounds Team as and when required. Perform other duties which will include, but are not limited to those, set out in the Employment Manual; observe restrictions and undertake responsibilities as may be assigned to you from time to time by your Line Manager, a member of SLT, and the Head.
You are expected to be flexible to carry out tasks that are unforeseen at this time eg. legislative changes, improvements in service delivery, project work etc. However, you will be given the correct guidance and support to enable you to conduct these duties effectively.

You are required to promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons with whom you come into contact.

£27,000.00 per year
