We are looking for a Pastoral Lead to join us.

08:30 - 16:30 Mon - Fri, 39 working weeks, 5.6 weeks paid holidays

This is a full time 1 -year interim position available from September 2023 with a six months probationary period.


To enable pupils to overcome personal barriers to learning through the delivery of a planned provision that supports the safety, well-being and academic needs of pupils, particularly with regard to both the social, emotional and mental health and EHCP targets of pupils.

Key Role Objectives

  • To work with school staff, SENDCO and external agencies to identify pupils in need of extra support
  • To develop provision to offer layers of support that will support children to develop resilience and the ability to work towards their development, progress and achievement
  • To develop both 1:1 and group mentoring relationships with students identified as needing support
  • To work with small groups of pupils identified as 'vulnerable' in specific SEMH areas through targeted intervention
- to spot the signs of any stress a student might be under and provide the appropriate type of pastoral support

  • To provide a 'safe haven' for those students who need it
  • To liaise with colleagues in school and with outside agencies to work towards the best outcomes for students
  • To assist the lead practitioner in safeguarding, acting as deputy designated safeguarding lead if necessary particularly with regard to those pupils for whom their placement may be at risk
  • To liaise with parents/carers as necessary
  • To maintain accurate records and help with any administration relevant to referrals from colleagues in addition to those from outside agencies
  • To support with improving pupil attendance, punctuality and transition planning into the school.

Qualifications and training:

  • Relevant training for working with young people aged between 111
  • Degree in Psychology or similar field

Experience desired:

  • Experience of working with young people aged 111
  • Proven track record of successfully working with disaffected young people
  • Working with pupils with social, emotional and mental health difficulties or diagnosis with awareness of therapeutic/clinical approaches
  • Experience of working in a secondary school setting

Skills:

  • An ability to communicate effectively with students, students, parents and multi agencies
  • An ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Good organization, time management, communication and Interpersonal skills.
  • Good research and planning skills
  • Knowledge of the principals involved in giving advice and guidance to young people including the place of confidentiality and sharing information
  • The ability to find creative and imaginative solutions to problems
  • The ability to produce detailed, concise evaluative reports of the programme
