Job Title:

Hours:1 x 22hrs

Flexible - some evenings as required.

Pay:
£24,019 pro rata (37hrs fte)

Line Manager:
Senior Project Leader - Mentoring

Purpose of the Post:
To provide direct support to children, young people through a mentoring relationship. To assist in the development and support of peer support services in schools.

Based:
Northorpe Hall, Northorpe Lane, Mirfield, WF14 0QL.

Context:

Northorpe Hall Child & Family Trust is a small independent charity working to improve the mental health and emotional well-being of children and young people in Kirklees.


Requirements:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning work and using resources

  • Planning own workloads and liaising with other team members to coordinate work
  • Assisting to support volunteers and students in the service
  • Contribute to the development and activities of the mentoring service in response to the needs of children and young people
  • Ensuring all activities are risk assessed and appropriate action taken to ensure safe practice

Supporting children and young people

  • Providing direct support to individual young people and their families to enable them to make life changes which improve their mental and emotional wellbeing
  • Supporting young people's participation in occasional group activities and residentials.
  • Enable young people to access additional support services if required according to their needs
  • Provide accessible support at venues, appropriate times/days in response to needs and preferences of individuals
  • Providing telephone and in person contact with parent/carers and professionals in relation to a supported young person
  • Deliver training, supervision and support to peer supporters in school and community settings.
  • Provide advice, support and guidance to school staff around peer support.

  • Attend multiagency meetings as required
  • Communicate, coordinate and develop good working relationships with other organisations and groups to ensure the needs of children are met
  • Ensuring a responsive and positive experience for those accessing or attempting to access support

Information, record keeping and support to decision making

  • Ensuring there are accurate records kept of all referrals, assessments, contacts, meetings, plans, sessions and evidence of progress using the database systems.
  • Assisting with the provision of up to date information about the service making this available to colleagues to enable them to deal with enquiries and requests for support effectively
  • Assisting with report preparation for internal use, for funders and others as required
  • Assisting to raise awareness of the emotional and mental health needs of young people

Safeguarding

  • For those activities within the responsibility of the post, ensure risks are assessed and actions taken to reduce and manage risks
  • To follow policies and procedures in place relating to the safeguarding of children and young people

Support other Trust activities

  • To contribute to the safe and effective running of the organisation and implementing plans, policies and procedures
  • To develop good working relationships with other Northorpe Hall staff and volunteers
  • Provide reports and information about the service as required
  • To support colleagues who are leading on other projects, events and activities to sustain and develop the Trust
  • Gather and present feedback from staff, volunteers, partners and beneficiaries of the service
  • Share skills and knowledge with colleagues, formally and informally
  • Supporting young people to contribute to and participate in decision making about

Job Title:

You will have experience of supporting young people.

You will have a relevant qualification providing a strong understanding of children, young people and families and their circumstances for need.


You will use your skills and knowledge to work directly with young people, providing responsive and flexible support that is reflective of the current needs and priorities of those you are supporting.

You will be accessible and engaging, able to build positive working relationships with young people and families and with other professionals supporting them.

You will demonstrate a commitment to co-production approaches, working in partnership with young people and families, valuing their perspective, knowledge, abilities and strengths.
