Each Care Group is led and overseen by a Managing Director reporting to the Chief Operating Officer.


Each Care Group will oversee a range of services and have a clear leadership structure working to the Managing Director.

The senior leadership team for each of the Care Group are also responsible for the day to day running of each of the hospitals, Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother, Margate, William Harvey Hospital, Ashford and Kent and Canterbury, Canterbury.


The Care Groups work collaboratively across the Trust and the local and sector systems for the purposes for continually improving the care for our patients and those who use the service.

The detail of each Care Group is given in the attached appendix

The predominant responsibilities of the role will be to lead the development of the Care Group, ensuring that the intended outcomes for quality, performance, finance, workforce, transformation and collaborative system working are delivered

The Head of Operations is responsible for Operational management of the Care Group, focussing on acute flow both in and out of hours,ensuring Trust bed resources are used to maximum efficiency, while ensuring safety, quality, and performance are delivered.

This post is accountable to the Managing Director to ensure that the Care Group deliver on Trust key performance objectives for non -elective and planned care.

The Head of Operations Role requires the following attributes to be evidenced:

Senior operational manager/clinician with experience of acute and non-elective care: to have significant experience of Urgent and Emergency Care systems and to have beenemployed in a site/patient flow role or have commensurate senior operational management experience in an acute NHS provider hospital setting.
