The Deputy Medical Director (Workforce & Professional Standards) is responsible for supporting the Medical Director to provide clear leadership and direction in respect of Medical and Dental colleagues clinical and professional behaviours.
This role will have delegated authority from the Medical Director and will be the named Responsible Officer for the organisation and is the nominated lead for the organisation on General Medical Council (GMC) revalidation, Consultant Appraisal (including 360 feedback).
Responsible Officers play a key role in improving the quality and safety of patient care. They do this through their statutory duties which are described in terms of:
Evaluating fitness to practice of doctors (regulatory functions)
Monitoring the conduct and performance through clinical governance functions.
The Deputy Medical Director (Workforce & Professional Standards) is the Trust Job Planning and E-Rostering Champion. Job planning is an important way to link best use of resources with quality outcomes for patients and is useful element in service redesign. When this is combined with E-Rostering software, it enables effective planning and deploy of workforce.
In common with all members of our team, the Deputy Medical Director is expected to advocate, exemplify and consistently act as a role model by championing our NNUH Vision and exhibiting our values, including providing constructive challenge to behaviours at all levels that do not reflect our values.
Main duties of the job
To provide professional, inclusive, and compassionate leadership for medical and dental and other clinical staff across the Trust through effective role modelling and professional development activities.
To act as the mandatory training champion for medical and dental staff and support and input into leadership development programmes and succession planning.
Work with Human Resources to harmonise medical workforce guidelines and practice across all three acute providers.
Help to improve the training and development of medical leaders and managers.
To actively promote diversity, including race and gender diversity, in the delivery of the Trust's medical and dental services, and the recruitment, management and development of medical and dental staff.
To foster effective relationships with the University Medical and Dental Schools to provide a supportive and effective teaching environment.
To contribute to developing effective working relationships with education providers and other professional bodies to ensure that there is appropriate correlation between service and training needs
To represent the organisation at regional and national levels on professional medical, dental and corporate issues, developing partnerships, sharing best practice and integrating this knowledge within the Trust.
