The Faculty of Creativity and Skills at Coleg Ceredigion is looking to appoint a dynamic, forward thinking Lighting and Production Lecturer on the Aberystwyth Campus. The Theatre Technical Lecturer is responsible for delivering high-quality education and training in technical theatre production to Level 3 UAL Performing Arts students. This role involves designing and implementing a Level 3 Technical and Production curriculum, assessing student performance, and providing support and guidance to students pursuing careers in theatre production.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and deliver engaging and comprehensive lessons in technical theatre production, including lighting, sound, set design, stage management, and production planning;

Develop and update course materials, ensuring they are current and aligned with industry standards and qualifications;

Incorporate practical, hands-on training opportunities and theoretical knowledge in the curriculum;

Assess student work, providing constructive feedback and guidance to support their academic and professional development;

Monitor and report on student progress, identifying areas for improvement and implementing appropriate interventions;

Offer one-on-one support and mentoring to students, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment;

Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in technical theatre production;

Build and maintain relationships with industry professionals and organisations to provide students with networking opportunities and real-world insights;

Participate in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills and subject knowledge;

Maintain a safe and organised learning environment, ensuring all equipment and materials are properly maintained and used in accordance with health and safety regulations;

Supervise students during practical sessions, ensuring safe working practices and adherence to industry standards;

Coordinate with other faculty and staff to support collaborative projects and cross-disciplinary learning opportunities;

Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and other required documentation;

Participate in departmental meetings and other college activities as required;

Contribute to the continuous improvement of the technical theatre program through feedback and innovative ideas.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

Essential Criteria:

B.A. in Technical Theatre, Theatre Production, or a related field

GCSE English & Maths at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent

Strong ability to convey technical concepts to students with varying levels of experience and knowledge. Excellent communication and presentation skills

Desirable Criteria:

Teaching qualification

Relevant teaching experience

Appropriate Health & Safety training (or willingness to undertake appropriate training)

Proficiency in lighting design, sound engineering, set construction, and stage management. Familiarity with industry-standard software and equipment

Welsh Language Requirements:

Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 3/4

Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 3/4
