SEND LSA/Teaching Assistant

Protocol Education are looking to recruit a learning support assistant/teaching assistant to join a specialist school in Loughton.

The school caters for children and young people who have a range of needs, including learners with autistic spectrum condition and those with complex physical and sensory impairments. All pupils are provided with an exciting, balanced education which will be appropriately paced and designed to meet their individual education needs.

The role:

  • Supervise pupils with SEND, ensuring their safety and ability to access learning activities and understand the information presented.
  • Aid the execution of education plans suitable to each pupils’ learning objectives.
  • Build a trusting relationship with all pupils and communicate according to their understanding.
  • Promote class interaction and ensure pupils engage throughout the lessons.
  • Create an interesting environment for students.
  • Assist pupils with practical activities using a variety of teaching aids.
  • Look after children's physical, social and emotional welfare.

About you:

  • A general understanding of national/foundation stage curriculum.
  • Flexibility to be able to work in a range of classes with pupils of varying ages and need.
  • An interest, motivation and passion for working with special needs children and developing skills to facilitate this.
  • Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities.
  • Calm, controlled and effective communication and relate well to all children and adults within the school.
  • Ability to work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and your own position within this.
  • A high level of professionalism and the ability to distinguish personal and professional boundaries in school related relationships both in and outside of the school.
  • Level 2 (GCSE) Qualifications in English and Maths (or the ability to show a high level of competence in literacy and numeracy school related tasks).
  • An aptitude for understanding and/or working knowledge of specialist IT software and other IT resources such as iPads to support students’ learning and communication.
  • Be willing to develop a full working knowledge, understanding and adherence to relevant school policies, practice and procedures.

This is a long-term, full-time position so we are looking for candidates to be available 5 days a week between the hours of 8:30am-15:30pm. Please only apply if you can accommodate this.
