NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

About the role

"This role sits within the Engineering Support Team, primarily set up to provide critical breakdown support to the solid waste plant. The expertise within the team has allowed us to increase our support to include plant enhancements and bespoke projects. The Engineering support team remains relatively small demanding a high degree of 'Flexibility and co-operation. Team members are experts in their field with the ability to lead investigations and deliver compliant solutions. This is an exciting opportunity to work with an established team delivering complex engineering solutions across a broad range of heavy duty process plant. Applicants will be highly motivated engineers with a strong track record of problem solving, working independently or as part of a project team."

Key Deliverables

Manage engineering support to the project.
Support project optioneering process
Develop concept design and fit for purpose engineering solution for projects
Produce and/or approve project technical specifications
Carry out technical assessment/approval of contractors work instruction/method statements/risk assessments.

Qualifications and Experience

Appropriate HNC, National Qualifications Framework (NQF) level 5; preferably degree level (NQF level 6) or working towards
Ideally Membership of a relevant Engineering Institution and/or Chartered Status
Significant experience in a EC& I Engineering role on industrial plant
Project delivery experience
Significant experience of nuclear and/or conventional project engineering
Detailed understanding of relevant Company and/or national engineering standards
Detailed knowledge of CDM Designer role

Flexible working - where possible.
The equivalent of 25 days (185 hours per year) annual leave plus Public Holidays (59.2 hours per year). This increases by 2 days (14.8 hours per year) annual leave after two full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year) , and an additional 3 days (22.2 hours per year) annual leave after five full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year). You also have the option to buy or sell the equivalent of 5 days (37 hours) annual leave each year (available in specific windows for the following holiday year). For the purpose of assessing an employee's annual leave entitlement, a day means seven and two fifths (7.4) hours. A pro rata entitlement will apply for part time workers.
