The CRUK Cambridge Institute's (CRUK CI) scientific Core Facilities perform a fundamental role at the heart of our research community. They are a repository for deep knowledge and expertise in scientific technologies and techniques and work in partnership with the Institute's research groups in answering biological questions related to cancer.

The Light Microscopy Core Facility provides expertise, training, and instrumentation across a wide range of research projects. We support 5000 hours of yearly microscope usage for our 200 researchers at the CRUK CI and the wider community. The supported technologies include Confocal, High Content, Light Sheet, STED Super-resolution and Widefield Microscopy as well as a wide range of image analysis.

We are looking for a Microscopy Specialist to join our team to provide scientific and technical support and training in microscopy and image analysis to members of the research groups. The role holder will assist with the day to day running of the Microscopy Core Facility including maintaining the microscopy equipment. You will have the opportunity to apply your problem-solving skills to troubleshoot challenging technical issues, analyse image data and contribute towards a large range of research projects in the CRUK CI.

The Microscopy Specialist reports directly to the reports directly to the Light Microscopy Facility Manager, Andreas Bruckbauer and will be part of a team of currently four facility staff supporting research assistants, research associates, clinical fellows, and PhD students from the research groups.

The role holder would possess in-depth experience in confocal microscopy and image analysis at a level sufficient to provide training to inexperienced users. Expertise in other advanced microscopy techniques such as Super-Resolution microscopy or Light Sheet microscopy is desirable (required for the Senior Scientific Associate). Ideally you would have experience of working in a Microscopy Core Facility team and will possess excellent communication and teamwork skills.
