Milestone Infrastructure is currently looking to recruit a Senior Transport Planner to work on our Peterborough contract in Sand Martin House Peterborough.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Transport Planner to join Milestone Infrastructure’s Transport Planning team based in Peterborough. You will be responsible for delivering a wide range of transport related projects, principally for our Peterborough City Council client, and occasionally for other councils including Cambridgeshire, Central Bedfordshire, and Suffolk.  

As a Senior Transport Planner, you will be an important part of the highly successful Transport Planning team that has secured over £90million of new infrastructure funding for its clients. As a senior member of the team, you will be principally responsible for securing this funding through the development of business cases and supporting information including transport models and economic assessments. However, there is a great deal of variety and opportunity including provision of Highway Development Control advice, policy, and planning development.    

Ongoing work includes the creation of Peterborough Station Quarter, access to the new Peterborough Anglia Ruskin University and the new active travel bridge over the River Nene. Peterborough has huge future ambitions including a £1billion regeneration plan to transform the city.

Due to the collaborative nature of the work, we expect 3 days working in the office with two days working from home. 

This is a career grade post with training and promotion opportunities when the required experience and skills are gained.  

As a Senior Transport Planner your duties & responsibilities will be: 

-Leading the delivery of business cases, transport studies, modelling using AIMSUN, PTV VISUM and SATURN, and economic appraisal using TUBA, COBALT, and the Active Mode Appraisal Toolkit.

-Provision of line management, technical support, and training to junior members of the Transport Planning Team. Lead on small – medium sized Transport Planning projects and coordinate multi-disciplinary input from colleagues, consultants, and stakeholders where necessary.

-Undertake Quality Assurance reviews on work undertaken by Transport Planners and Assistant Transport Planners, as well as consultants.

-Establish strong client relationships and support the Transport Planning Lead with work winning. Responsibility for delivery of work to time, cost and in line with quality expectations. 

-Be actively engaged with the broader Transport Planning community and share learning and innovation with the team.  

Skills & Knowledge Requirements:

-Technical skills, including proficiency in strategic (Saturn or Visum) and/or microsimulation transport modelling (Aimsun or Vissim) and local junction modelling (Junctions 10 and Linsig), as well as GIS.

-Experience of providing input into successful Transport Business Cases and a solid understanding of the requirements for producing these.

-An awareness of local government structure and funding mechanisms, and experience of working on behalf of Local Authorities.

-Experience of working directly with clients, and an ability to deputise in the absence of the Transport Planning Lead.

-Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience of presenting to clients and their stakeholders.

-Experience of working on multi-disciplinary projects. Ideally 7 + years of Transport Planning experience
