Being a Health and Wellbeing Manager

You will be passionate about enhancing mental and physical health, fostering a supportive environment, and leading comprehensive wellbeing programs.

You’ll be an expert in mental health, adept at using data to inform strategies, and proficient in contract management. In this role, you can expect to collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders, manage wellbeing budgets, and provide 24/7 telephone welfare support one week in five. You will lead the transformation of our wellbeing strategy, ensuring it aligns with our overall organisational goals.

What you’ll do

  • Develop and Implement Wellbeing strategies
  • Wellbeing Education and Training
  • Manage the Wellbeing Team, out-of-hours on-call welfare support team, and coordinate critical incident trauma support. Provide training, development, and supervision for welfare support officers and defusing officers/peer defusers.
  • Offer expert support and advice to HR and managers on mental and physical health issues, including participation in the on-call welfare support officer rota.
  • Provide clinical supervision for high-risk groups such as Safeguarding Officers, Safe and Well Teams, Employee Relations, Fire Investigation, and defusing officers/peer defusers.
  • Budget and Contract Management
  • Develop wellbeing policies, procedures, and guidance, leading consultations with unions and employee representatives.
  • Explore potential collaborative working opportunities with internal and external partners to improve wellbeing.

What you’ll bring

  • Expertise in a mental health-related role such as counselling, psychotherapy, psychology, or mental health nursing.
  • Knowledge of contract management and Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • Analytical Skills
  • Communication and Presentation Skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Minimum Level 4 diploma in Counselling/Psychotherapy or equivalent mental health or nursing qualification, and an undergraduate degree in Psychology or Occupational Psychology. Professional registration or accreditation with BACP/UKCP/HCPC/RCN or equivalent membership body.
  • Proven experience in developing health and wellbeing strategies, managing teams, delivering wellbeing training, and budget management. Experience in working within an emergency service is desirable but not essential.
