An exciting opportunity for a locum Congenital Heart Surgeon is available to work across the directorate of children's cardiac services and adult congenital heart surgery at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children and the Bristol Heart Institute. The role will work across both Women and Children's and the division of Specialised Services to deliver adult congenital heart disease ('CHD') patients. BRHC and the BHI constitute Level 1 CHD centres within the Southwest and South Wales CHD Network.

There are very close links with the level 2 congenital cardiology service at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. We serve a population of approximately 7 million people. We provide a full range of services for children and adults with congenital heart disease, together with short-term mechanical support (ECMO) where indicated - but excluding long-term mechanical support and transplantation.

This role is for a full-time Congenital Heart Surgeon. The Clinical Director for Paediatric Cardiac Services is Dr Andrew Tometzki and the lead for Congenital Heart Surgery is Mr Andrew Parry.

Main duties of the job

The CHD surgery team consists of a team of three congenital heart surgeons providing a 24/7 on-call service. You will also attend joint cardiac conferences and provide outpatient clinics and have a significant role to play in the provision of an outstanding service for our patients with congenital heart disease. This a Locum post to start as soon as possible and to run fixed term until June 2025.
