Overview:

Our client, a leading civil engineering contractor, has been awarded several new substation, overhead line, and subsea cable route projects across the North of Scotland for their key client, SSEN. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Health and Safety Manager to join their established team on the prestigious Eastern Green Link 2 project in Peterhead. This project aims to boost Scotland's renewable energy capacity and provide clean energy for two million homes in the UK.

As a Health and Safety Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring a safe working environment throughout this significant project. You will be tasked with leading the implementation of health and safety policies and procedures, enforcing compliance with regulatory requirements, and fostering a culture of safety on-site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Policy Development and Implementation: Lead the development, implementation, and continuous review of health and safety policies, procedures, and management systems, ensuring full compliance with legislation and industry best practices.
  • Site Inspections and Risk Management: Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement corrective actions to mitigate potential safety issues.
  • Advice and Guidance: Provide expert advice to project teams on health and safety matters, including safe equipment use, PPE requirements, and emergency procedures.
  • Training and Induction: Oversee and deliver health and safety training and induction programmes for all employees and subcontractors, ensuring that personnel are fully informed and equipped to perform their duties safely.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigate any accidents, incidents, or near misses, documenting findings and recommending preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact with regulatory authorities, clients, and other stakeholders on health and safety matters, representing the company s interests and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor and report on health and safety performance, including key performance indicators (KPIs), to senior management and project stakeholders, ensuring continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education: Degree or diploma in occupational health and safety, environmental management, or a related field.
  • Certification: NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification in occupational health and safety.
  • Experience: Proven experience in a health and safety management role within civil engineering, particularly in large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge: Thorough understanding of health and safety legislation, regulations, and standards applicable to the construction sector.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Organisational Abilities: Excellent organisational and analytical skills, with keen attention to detail and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
