We have a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic team who’s work directly influences fairer outcomes. The Government Debt Management Function was established in 2017, and is comprised of 16 dedicated and innovative professionals who support around 7000 debt management professionals across government.
As the Head of Profession and Head of Function, you will be accountable to the chief operating officer for the Civil Service (within Cabinet Office) and to the permanent secretary of HM Treasury. As the Deputy Director for the GDMF Functional Centre, you will lead the team and effectively champion change. You will lead the delivery of the function’s strategic vision of Fair Debt Outcomes for All. In line with the functional purpose to drive consistency, minimise losses, protect taxpayers’ money and reduce unnecessary pressure on indebted individuals. This will be done through the delivery of the strategy and application of the debt standard; developing debt capability and leading the Profession.
You will provide debt management expertise to guide the delivery of a challenging programme of work in collaboration with Ministers, government organisations, Senior Leaders, and internal and external partners. You will also build links across the Government Finance Function and identify ways to best utilise the GDMF Functional Centre’s position in the Treasury.
You will find innovative ways to ensure the complexity and diversity of government debt, and Fair Debt Outcomes for All are factored into every aspect of the functions work.
We are looking for individuals who have extensive debt management expertise which could be gained from working within the public, private or debt advice sector. You will need to have a comprehensive understanding of the wider impact that debt can have on other parts of government, on government services, on the health of individuals and on the way businesses operate.
