The Deputy Director of Public Spending will lead the Workforce Pay and Pensions team, responsible for setting, delivering, and maintaining the Government's policy positions on public sector pay and pensions. This role requires strong leadership and policy development skills, with a focus on managing public spending and delivering high-quality public services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Public Spending Group, ensuring a balanced, resilient, diverse, and effective working environment.
  • Develop and implement policy positions on public sector pay and pensions, working closely with Treasury ministers, departments, and the Pay Review Bodies.
  • Advise the Chief Secretary and Chancellor on pay and pension policy, ensuring funds effectively target recruitment and retention problems and drive up productivity in public sector workforces.
  • Work with EDS to advise the Chancellor and Prime Minister on industrial relations issues.
  • Lead the implementation of the McCloud remedy scheme, working closely with HMRC, departments, and public sector pensions schemes.
Requirements
  • Experience of operating at a senior level in a complex policy environment and leading policy development at a senior level across government.
  • Strong leadership and policy development skills, with a focus on managing public spending and delivering high-quality public services.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with key stakeholders, including trades unions, workforce leads in government departments, and teams across the Treasury.
