Who are we? Suiso will offer a range of modular production systems to the heating and transport sectors for the onsite generation of Hydrogen and will become a key enabler of the low Carbon Hydrogen economy which is essential to stopping further climate change. The role Suiso is seeking a talented Controls Engineer to assist with the design and optimization of its Hydrogen production reactor and system. In this role, you will have technical ownership over Suiso’s PLC control systems which will be used to operate the Hydrogen reactor, compressors, sensors, valves and other key elements of Suiso’s technology. These systems will then be integrated intp a compact and efficient containerised system. In particular, we are seeking someone with relevant experience with Hydrogen or similar ATEX applications. Responsibilities The Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation Engineer will primarily be responsible for the design of Susio’s PLC systems. The company has existing PLC and HMI code that the candidate can use as a basis for future work. Some specific duties and responsibilities will include :
  • Working with Suiso’ operators to determine PLC / HMI requirements.
  • Designing and implementing safe shutdown and ESTOP protocols.
  • Determining and documenting control requirements in a user requirements specification (URS) which will be handed to a supplier who will implement the PLC.
  • Working with vendors and other Suiso engineer to specify quotes for sensors and PLC components.
  • Designing new online dashboards (using vendor software) to report data from PLCs for remote viewing.
  • Designing remote access functions (using vendor software).
  • Advising Suiso technicians to help with the fitting of components into the PLC system (e.g. generation of work instructions).
  • Ensuring designs and built systems / components are compliant with relevant legislation / standards.
  • Supporting other Suiso staff in running equipment (e.g. helping with fault finding, datalogger analysis, evaluation of system performance, etc.).
  • Assisting with fault-finding and root-cause analysis activities.
  • Creating electrical single line diagrams for PLC systems (desired but not essential).
Qualifications, experience and skills Essential requirements :
  • Minimum 5 years working in an engineering environment.
  • Minimum 2 years controls engineering experience
  • Experience in relevant software packages for PLC and HMI coding.
Desirable qualifications / experience :
  • HND or Batchelors degree (2 : 1) in electrical engineering (or similar) preferred,
  • Previous experience working in a start-up.
  • Experience in relevant software packages for electrical drawings creation.
  • Previous experience working with Hydrogen or other flammable gases in an ATEX / Ex environment.
Preferred skills :
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Structured / organised methods of working and file management.
  • Pragmatic and detail conscious.
  • Adept at writing concise technical documents.

  • This is a full-time position based in the Advanced Manufacturing Park near Sheffield.
