Community Safety Partnerships Lead

Solihull, United Kingdom Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council Full time

The role

We are recruiting a new Community Safety Lead, following the retirement of the previous post-holder. This is a rare and interesting role, which covers a broad set of topics and relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

The role comes during a period of change, with a new UK government, national review of community safety partnerships, as well as a changing context for Solihull.

A refresh to our approach to community safety is needed, with more intelligence-led practices, community engagement and multi-agency problem solving. Whilst there are solid foundations to build from, there are significant opportunities for the right candidate to improve and shape our Council and multi-agency approach to community safety, engaging with issues like gangs and organised crime, serious violence, exploitation and extremism, for instance.

There are two elements to the role. The first is managing and supporting the business of the Safer Solihull Partnership (our local Community Safety Partnership), ensuring it can operate as effectively as possible to deliver its responsibilities and duties, promote safer places and communities across Solihull. The second part of the role is taking responsibility for how the Council delivers its community safety related duties and responsibilities. This will include working with colleagues and teams across the Council, to promote effective teamwork and collaboration, with a specific focus on areas like Prevent.

As a senior manager, you will also contribute to the wider leadership of the Stronger Communities division, which includes working with and supporting colleagues involved in community development, VCFSE partnerships and programmes, newly arrived communities and refugee resettlement.

Key requirements

To succeed, you’ll need to be a community safety expert, who is also able to lead and coordinate activity within a multi-agency environment.

You will have:

Relevant Level 5 diploma qualification(s) in community safety and/or in ASB, or evidence of significant experience accrued in the community safety and/or ASB fields.Experience of working successfully in complex partnership environments and/or multi-agency teams. An ability to operate with a high degree of independence, balancing competing priorities and responding to emerging trends and issues.Knowledge and experience of approaches to performance management and community engagement.

The offer

In return, we offer the opportunity to develop your experience and expertise, ideas and skills within a challenging and dynamic environment.

As an employee of Solihull Council, you will also benefit from a competitive salary, attractive staff benefits, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme and a range of flexible working options.  This will include benefitting from the implementation of our new Smarter Ways of Working, reflecting that work is what you do and not necessarily where you go to do it.  Whilst your office location will be at the Council House you will be able to work from other locations around the borough and from home, as appropriate.

Additional information

For an informal discussion about this post, please contact Austin Rodriguez, Head of Housing and Communities at austin.rodriguez@solihull.gov.uk or Alison McGrory, Assistant Director at amcgrory@solihull.gov.uk

Closing date for completed applications: 1st September 2024

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to undertake psychometric tests as part of the selection process.   Successful applicants will then be invited to interview on 19th or 20th September 2024.

This post is covered by the Fluency Duty, as outlined in the Code of Practice on the English language requirements for public sector workers.

Solihull Council has a responsibility for, and is committed to, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk, and requires all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
