The Loans Middle Office team works closely with Primary loan origination businesses in the Leveraged Finance, Asset Backed and Structured Credit space and are responsible for the support and control of the business. This covers a wide spectrum of loan related activity including the agency function of structured transactions, primary settlement of corporate transactions, syndications, documentation and settlement of any secondary trades and servicing a diverse loan portfolio. The team is central to all activity relating to the trading desks that it supports and therefore interacts regularly with a wide network of internal departments including trading, sales, legal, product control, risk, investment banking as well as most other operations teams.

Role description:

The Loans Middle Office team is responsible for the operational management of the EMEA loan portfolio. In this role you will be working closely with primary trading desks (Leveraged Finance, ABS and Structured Credit businesses), and any Front Office desk that execute secondary loan trades, investment banking, , external vendor support, clients, counterparties, external counsel and all internal support functions within the organisation. This is a unique role that will combine primary closing and oversight of secondary loan closing to ensure timely settlement. You will ensure all operational risks are addressed and managed during due diligence, ensuring the successful closure of both primary and secondary transactions and ongoing management of the EMEA portfolio.

In this role, you will:

  • Work closely with the key Loan Origination desks bringing loans from origination to settlement, and any desk executing secondary par or distressed trades as well as internal and external legal teams, clients and agent banks.
  • Detailed review of loan documentation from an operations perspective, to ensure all potential risks are captured.
  • Help manage and develop the operations process to increase efficiency, monitor accuracy and timeliness, and strengthen controls.
  • Work closely with the front office to streamline the loan settlement process and reduce operational risk.
  • Work closely with the Mumbai servicing team to ensure the accuracy and smooth running of settlements and the servicing of the loan portfolio.
  • Help manage the Agency role function of the team on loan deals where Nomura are the agent
  • Understand the business and the risk framework, working intensively with the business to assist its growth and ensure compliance.
  • Help review and assess operational risks on structured transactions and implement strategies to manage them

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required

  • Multiple years' experience in loan closing role - either primary or secondary.
  • Experience in agency role beneficial
  • Experience and comfort in reviewing loan documentation, both LMA and LSTA.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Self-motivator with the ability to multi task and self-prioritize.
