Job Purpose:

To assess, supervise and support Torfaen’s foster carers, supported lodgings providers and kinship carers.  

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the assessment, supervision and support of Torfaen’s Foster Carers.

You will complete assessments with regard to new applicants who wish to be foster carers or supported lodgings providers and present the assessment to the fostering panel. 

You will complete assessments for kinship care arrangements including viability, connected persons, special guardianship and private fostering assessments.

You will provide regular supervisionto foster carers in line with statutory regulations and Torfaen County Borough Council’s policies and procedures.

You will ensure that foster carers training and support needs are met in line with statutory regulations and Torfaen County Borough Council’s policies and procedures. 

You will contribute to the review of foster carers on your caseload and present these at fostering panel where required. 

You will participate in placement stability meetings in order to achieve greater placement stability for children looked after, ensuring sound planning and the timely provision of support where a placement is at risk of breakdown. 

You will attend Professional Strategy Meetings where required in relation to carers on your caseload.

You will undertake the role of office duty worker on a rota basis, undertaking placement searches and matching alongside the Placement and Business Support Officer as well as responding to crises. 

You will work closely with colleagues in the locality Teams, Children with Disabilities Team and the 16+ Team as well as other professional agencies.

You will maintain accurate and up to date records on relevant electronic and manual systems. 

You will maintain an awareness of changes in legislation related policies and practices and implement these within your own professional practice. 

You will develop your own professional skills through supervision and attendance at appropriate training.

Contribute positively to the team, through working in co-operation with colleagues and line manager.

Demonstrate professional competence in social work practice.

To demonstrate a willingness to undertake training development and learning opportunities to improve skills.

Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development, according to the requirements of Social Care Wales.

Contribute to the professional development of less experienced colleagues and the supervision of students on placements within the Department.

Demonstrate a commitment to and support for the development of best practice

Participate in and inform service and practice reviews.

Comply with and support others to observe Health and Safety Act 2009procedures and processes.
